While relatively uniform compared to the overworld, The Depths in the latest 3DZeldagame still hide many a secret. Nintendo intentionally designed the Hyrule underground to feel daunting to explore at first, with every descent being a new expedition with its own challenges. The threat of stumbling on a buffed Lynel is one of the many dangers thatTears of the Kingdom’s Depthshide.
However, it turns out that underground Lynels aren’t particularly difficult to avoid—or find, for that matter. As recently noted by Reddit user Golurk623, every underground Lynel is located in the immediate vicinity of an area immediately below one ofTears of the Kingdom’s stables.
Tears of the Kingdom Doesn’t Advertise Its Lynel Distribution Logic
Reflecting on this discovery, Golurk623 said it wasn’t until their secondTears of the Kingdomplaythroughthat they noticed a pattern behind the placement of Lynels in the Depths. Be that as it may, they still appear to be ahead of the curve, because plenty of fans chiming in on their observation said that they never would have made this connection on their own. The game itself does nothing to advertise its Lynel distribution logic, and since overworld set pieces lack consistent patterns, it’s easy to assume the same applies to The Depths—or to simply not think much about this aspect of world design.
The Lynels aren’t the only element of The Depths that’s distributed based on a consistent pattern.Tears of the Kingdom’s Lightroots are essentially the underground counterparts to shrines, which is something that the fandom noticed shortly following the game’s release. Anyone aware of this connection will essentially make double progress whenever they are exploring the Hyrule land map or The Depths.
As for the Lynels themselves, knowing where they are located underground is helpful for both avoiding them early in the game and farming them for rare materials later on.
