A reliable insider has indicated thatXboxis preparing to confirm more multiplatform ports for the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 relatively soon. SeeingXboxfirst-party games on rival platforms isn’t anything new at this point, but this rumored wave of upcoming announcements could mark the first time Microsoft confirms a Switch 2 port of one of its titles.
Early last year, Microsoft confirmed that it would begin porting Xbox first-party games to competing platforms, with the inaugural batch comprisingSea of Thieves,Grounded,Hi-Fi Rush, andPentiment. This decision came a few months after Microsoft closed the $68.7 billion Activision Blizzard acquisition, and was likely accelerated by thecrawling pace of Xbox Series X/S salesin recent years. So far in 2025, Xbox has broughtIndiana Jones and the Great Circle,Doom: The Dark Ages,Forza Horizon 5, andThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredto PS5.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2andGears of War: Reloadedare slated to arrive on PS5next month, withThe Outer Worlds 2coming to the Sony console in October. The Xbox slate for PS5 is evidently quite packed this year, but Microsoft may have more fuel in the tank. Speaking with Circana executive director Mat Piscatella on a recent episode ofThe Game Business Show, journalist and industry insider Christopher Dring claimed that Xbox is expected to announce more PS5 and Switch 2 ports “in the coming weeks.” While he didn’t confirm which Xbox games are next on the multiplatform slate, the timing of these announcements may fall around Gamescom 2025, set to take place from August 20-24.
Xbox Games That Could Come to PS5 and Switch 2 Over the Coming Months
As for which Xbox titles could show up, the gaming giant may finally confirmStarfield’s long-rumored PS5 port.Bethesda recently teased exciting developments forStarfieldthat will be shared later in 2025, and a PS5 version would certainly fall into that criterion. Obsidian’s upcomingGrounded 2is another very likely candidate for PS5 and Switch 2, given the first game came to PS5 and Switch, and rumors of a multiplatformHalo: Combat Evolvedremake have been bubbling for a long time too. Xbox may also bring existing multiplatform ports, likeIndiana Jones and the Great CircleandDoom: The Dark Ages, to Switch 2.
Considering the recent reports ofForza Horizon 5being the PS5’s best-selling game of 2025 so far, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Xbox is more bullish than ever on its multiplatform strategy. Piscatella explained that players today are deeply entrenched in their chosen ecosystems and social circles, making it difficult to lure them away with exclusives alone. Instead, success now depends on meeting players where they already are, and even PlayStation is dipping its toes into these waters with theXbox version ofHelldivers 2, which was announced earlier this month.
