Continuing its strong run in 2025, Xbox Game Pass is scheduled to add another highly rated game,Frostpunk 2, as a day-one release. Developed by 11 Bit Studios,Frostpunk 2will roll out for both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on September 18.
Contrary to the original plans for a multi-platform release,Frostpunk 2first came out exclusively on PCin September 2024. Despite facing a setback with its console ports, the devs evidently didn’t falter with the PC version, which ended up receiving critical acclaim and sold over half a million copies by the end of the year. A couple of months after shipping a massive free update forFrostpunk 2in May, 11 Bit Studios has finally locked down the city-building game’s arrival on consoles for this September.
Frostpunk 2is set to hit the shelves on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on September 18, almost a year after its initial release. Notably, it will also land onXbox Game Pass as yet another day-one release, further bolstering the subscription service’s lineup in 2025. Besides the standard version, two different special editions will also be up for grabs for fans. While the Icebreaker Edition (priced at $49.99) includes a New London pop-up diorama and a download code for a digital artbook and novella, along with a physical copy of the game, the Whiteout Edition (priced at $99.99) contains all the Icebreaker Edition’s content along with a multi-layered shadowbox, a keychain, two postcards, an embroidered patch, and stickers. The latter edition also grants players the Deluxe Edition upgrade, which will enable them to receive three upcoming DLCs in the future. Both theseFrostpunk 2variants are currently available for pre-order viaSkybound Games.
Xbox Game Pass to Receive Frostpunk 2 in September
Undoubtedly, 2025 has turned out to be one of the best years for Xbox Game Pass, with multiple well-received games, fromClair Obscur: Expedition 33toDoom: The Dark Ages, joining the subscription service. In July alone, its catalog received a notable boost with a varied slate of day-one additions, includingTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4andWuchang: Fallen Feathers. Given that major releases, such asGrounded 2(July 29),Frostpunk 2, andNinja Gaiden 4(October 21), are planned to arrive on Game Pass through the rest of the year, the lineup only looks set to become more appealing from hereon.
As 11 Bit Studios prepares for the long-awaited launch ofFrostpunk 2on consoles, its eyes are simultaneously set on laying out the plan for a fresh game in the series. Back in April, it was confirmed that the developer was aiming to release abrand-newFrostpunktitle in 2027.
