WhileWorld of Warcraftreleased its 11.1.7 patch just some days ago, filled with changes and new content for players to complete and get new rewards, there is a big talking point within the community due to the 11.2 patch on the PTR, which will be the next big release for the game.World of Warcraft’s patch 11.2will fundamentally act as a bridge between the current events and overall state of the game and the next expansion, Midnight. In fact, 11.2 will include a new raid in the form of Manaforge Omega, where players will go up against Dimensius the All-Devouring, possibly teasing where the story will go next in Midnight. More importantly, the patch will feature an “impossible” character, suggesting a big addition is coming soon.
Ghosts of K’aresh will be a massive release forWorld of Warcraft, marking the beginning of Season 3 for The War Within, with new tier sets, mounts, cosmetics, an entire location, and more. With the patch taking players to the homeworld of the Ethereals and the big bad being Dimensius, the Void theme is pretty heavy. Interestingly, inside the new raid is a fight against a council of “Soul Hunters,” which is made of three Demon Hunters - one is Havoc, one is Vengeance, and one is Void.
World of Warcraft May Finally Check a Big Item Off Demon Hunter Players' Wish Lists
Since there are not really Void Demon Hunters in the game in terms of gameplay, and considering that Demon Hunters are the only class in the game with only two specs, this seems like a way for Blizzard to confirm that a third spec forDemon Hunters inWorld of Warcraftis finally coming. The Soul Hunters are even included in promotional material forWoW’s 11.2 patch, and interestingly, the Void Demon Hunter is front and center. Not only that, but with access to the PTR, fans were able to datamine two damning pieces of evidence:
While these may be tied to the Void Soul Hunter, this character’s very existence begs the question of why go the extra mile to add something like this if it’s not meant for players, too. Additionally,World of Warcraft’s Augmentation Evokerset a compelling precedent for this addition.
Although unrelated, Augmentation Evoker and Void Demon Hunter could have a unique factor in common, with this being the fact that the former was introduced in the middle of a patch rather than when it first came out, and it could be the exact same thing for the new DH spec. The current PTR for patch 11.2 doesn’t include a playablethird spec for the Demon Hunter class, but this doesn’t mean that it won’t be released further down the line, around 11.2.5. This feels like the perfect time for this addition, or at least, in preparation for it.
Why WoW’s Void Demon Hunter May Be a False Alarm
There is a chance that Void Demon Hunter, or whatever the actual spec may be called, doesn’t really come with patch 11.2 or its smaller sets of updates, though. This spec may be reserved for Midnight, or it might even be a red herring, as implausible as that may seem with all the evidence so far. Considering that the Evoker had two specs on launch and got a third shortly after, it would only make sense forWorld of Warcraft’s next classto actually be a spec, and drop as soon as sometime after 11.2 comes out. For now, players need to wait and see, but a Void spec for Demon Hunter does seem extremely likely now.
It’s worth noting that launching the heavily rumored Void spec for Demon Hunters in August would make sense to then line up the reveal of Midnight at Gamescon at the end of August 2025.
