For years, DC Comics fans have called for the comic book publisher and Warner Bros. to develop a dedicatedSupermanvideo game in the same vein as theBatman Arkhamseries or the recent PlayStation-exclusiveSpider-Mangames. While DC Comics and Warner Bros. have releasedSuperman-focused games before, they’ve primarily been based on movies and TV shows to largely less than favorable reviews, such as the infamousSuperman 64or the disappointingSuperman Returnsgame. However, with DC and Warner Bros. releasing the first soloSupermanfilm since 2013’sMan of Steelon July 11th, Superman fans can take to the skies as The Last Son of Krypton in two very different games:MinecraftandFortnite.
Minecraft and Fortnite’s Superman 2025 Crossovers Explained
Originally titledSuperman: Legacyand now simply calledSuperman, the upcoming film will be the first entry in the new cinematic DC Universe headed byGuardians of the Galaxydirector James Gunn following the dissolution of the previously Zack Snyder-headed DC Extended Universe. To celebrate the Man of Steel’s return to the big screen, Mojang and Epic Games have collaborated with DC and Warner Bros to release newSuperman-themed content forMinecraftandFortnite.
The first of the two to release wasMinecraft’s Superman Skin Pack, which can currently be downloaded for free onMinecraft’s Marketplace. The Skin Pack features five characters from the film:Superman, Lois Lane, Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific. While none of these skins grants players their superhuman abilities,Minecraftplayers can replicate Superman, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl’s ability to fly by using elytra or simply flying around in Creative Mode to recreate scenes from theSupermanfilm.
Gamers can use most of Superman’s powers inFortnite’s upcoming Superman Mythic drop this weekend. Launching on Friday, July 11,Fortniteplayers can encounter a Superman’s Call crystalbased on his iconic shield symbol for a chance to transform into Superman. As Clark Kent, players can fly, melt structures with heat vision, and pummel others with superhuman strength. However,Fortnite’s Superman is not invincible and can be taken down by commonFortnitemeans, resulting in the Superman player reverting to their normal self.
Fortnite’s Additional Superman Content and Features
Superman’s Call crystal isn’t the onlySupermancontent coming toFortnitethis weekend. Starting July 15, in Battle Royale and Zero Build matches, players can travel to Superman’s Kryptonian crystal-based Fortress of Solitude and meet with the Man of Steel, who will be offering services in exchange for Bars. Additionally, the new Surging Speed Boon can be found in Chests or at Academy Tech Labs, allowing players to sprint faster than a speeding bullet and consume less Energy.
If players purchase the Super Battle Pass, they can further unlock a Superman Outfit with one style based onDavid Corenswet’s Supermanand a new Pen & Ink style designed by legendary artist and DC Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee. With the Battle Pass and Shop, players can acquire otherSuperman2025-themed cosmetics, including:
Superman’s Potential Video Game Resurgence
WhileSuperman’s official presence inFortnite’s Battle Royaleand Zero Build matches is expected to only last for a limited time, onceFortnite’s Battle Royale Chapter 6 Season 3: Super ends, the 2025 film’s expected success could potentially lead to Superman having an increased presence in gaming. WhileSuperman’s theatrical profits remain to be seen, early screenings of the film have already received favorable reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes reviewers labeling it as Certified Fresh at 83%.
IfSupermandoes turn out to be a widespread critical and financial success,DC Comics, Warner Bros., and Gunn should consider developing a dedicatedSupermangame. Aside from game crossovers,Supermanhas appeared in relatively recent games but primarily as an antagonist seen inInjustice 2andSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While rumors persist of NetherRealm’s next title beingInjustice 3, DC could shock players by announcing the development of a newSupermangame exploring the early years of David Corenswet’s Superman. This would be due to Gunn’s plan to develop new DC video games that take place in the DCU’s shared timeline. Otherwise, Superman may just continue appearing as a side character or as a simple reference in other DCU games.
