Every horse girl has a great design inUmamusume: Pretty Derby, but you can also dress them up with new outfits and signature racewear if you unlock the right upgrades. EachUmamusumehas multiple different outfits to choose from, but you’ll have to get lucky with your pulls if you want to get their fancy costumes.
SomeUmamusumeeven come with their signature outfits by default, but that only applies to SSR characters that have a super low drop rate on each banner. Thankfully, even common characters can get their signature racewear if you dedicate enough resources to them, but it’s a lengthy process. There are also new outfits added toUmamusumeregularly, but most of those will cost you some extra Carats.

How to Unlock New Outfits in Umamusume
New outfits are unlocked inUmamusume: Pretty Derbybyincreasing a character’s star rating. All characters unlock theirsignature racewear at three stars, and SSRUmamusumelikeMejiro McQueenandTokai Teiocome with their signature racewear already unlocked since they start with three stars by default.
You can increase the star level of yourUmamusumeby navigating to theEnhancesection of the main menu and selectingStar Unlock. There, you can spendStar Piecesto upgrade your favorite character’s rating. You’ll need hundreds of Star Pieces to upgrade a character’s star level, though, so there’s a long grind ahead of you.

Star Pieces are obtained by pullingduplicate charactersfromUmamusumebanners. You can also spendGoddess Statuesin the statue exchange to obtain Star Pieces for any character, but they get progressively more expensive as you buy more of them. Goddess Statues also come from scouting, but you don’t have to pull a specific duplicate in order to get them. They’re still rare, though, so don’t waste them unless you really want to upgrade a certain character.
New outfits can also be obtained bypulling different variantsof existingUmamusumecharacters. For example,Tokai TeioandMejiro McQueenhave unique SSR versions featuring their outfits from theUmamusumeanime, and they’re treated as entirely separate characters from their base forms. As such, you’ll need to spend some Carats and hope you get lucky with scouting if you want to add them to your roster.
