Ubisoft has reportedly revealed a new first-personGhost Recongame in an internal meeting. If true, this would mean that the nextGhost Recontitle will be moving away from the third-person shooter experience offered in its latest entries, such as 2017’sGhost Recon: Wildlandsand 2019’sGhost Recon: Breakpoint.
While theGhost Reconfranchise has primarily been a third-person tactical shooter throughout its history, certain titles have allowed players to use a first-person view as well. In fact, the inaugural entry in the series, released in 2001, was a first-person shooter in its entirety. In June 2025, rumors said thatUbisoft was looking to takeGhost Reconback to its first-person rootsin its next game, codenamed Ovr. Now, a new report substantiating that claim has surfaced, signaling where the franchise’s future is headed.
In a shareholder meeting held on July 10, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the existence of an in-developmentGhost Reconproject, perGame File(viaInsider Gaming). Talking about the company’s objective, he said that it involved continuing work on the “current experiences we offer” and “capitalizing on upcoming launches, such asThe DivisionandGhost Recon.” While the development ofThe Division 3has been public knowledge since 2023, it was the first time the French gaming giant formally acknowledged a newGhost Recongame. Later in the meeting, Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet corroborated the information and highlighted that the upcoming game would be a “first-person-shooter-type” offering, unlikeGhost Recon: Breakpoint.
New First-Person Ghost Recon Game Reportedly Confirmed
Ghost Reconis undoubtedly one of themost popular Ubisoft IPs, and one that has persisted through decades. Following the back-to-back underwhelming reception ofWildlandsandBreakpoint, both of which were open-world third-person shooters, the franchise certainly looks in dire need of a turnaround soon. With that in mind, the rumored move to make the nextGhost Reconswitch perspectives from third-person to first-person could appear as a welcome change for some fans. For Ubisoft’s sake, one hopes that the new game doesn’t evoke the kind of reaction that its last attempt to transition the series back to its first-person shooter origins,Ghost Recon Frontline, received before being canceled.
As fans await more news about the next chapter in theGhost Reconsaga, there are reports of more Ubisoft gaming coming in the near future. One such title is therumoredAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagremake, which has been anticipated by the community for quite some time now. Amid these speculations, it will be interesting to track Ubisoft’s possible announcements in the near future, especially with major events such as Gamescom looming.
