ATwitchstreamer’s audience was alarmed when the streamer experienced an electrical shock mid-stream, apparently due to an ongoing lightning storm outside. While the streamer is reportedly ok, the scaryTwitchmoment is a reminder to take caution around electronics when lightning and thunder are raging.

According to the CDC, being anywhere near electrical devices that are actively connected to an electrical outlet is dangerous during a storm. Whether one is outside or indoors, lightning can strike unexpectedly, and it can lead toelectrical surges traveling through power cablesand into the attached devices. Gamers have been zapped by lightning strikes in the past, and now it’s happened again, and was caught on camera.

Twitch streamer chrispymate was live on July 19 during a lightning storm and ended up getting shocked while on camera. In a clip shared by the streamer, everything seems fine at first, with chrispymate chatting with his viewers in front of his computer. However, the scene suddenly took a turn. At about :09,chrispymate suddenly jumps in his seatat the exact same time that a visible flash goes off in his room and the microphone transmits static. The audio then dies for a moment, outside the sound of a device disconnecting from his computer, before he returns to the mic to explain that he’d beenzapped by an electrical shock.

Twitch Streamer Describes Electric Shock Experience

In the video, chrispymate explains that he felt a shock go through his earbuds, which were connected to his PC, and led to him jolting out of his seat and running out of the room. He later went into more detail, describing that the lightning had struck outside his window, and that for a split-second, his vision went completely white, followed by the feeling of electricity jolting through hisearbudsinto his head. Thankfully, he doesn’t seem to have experienced any permanent ill-effects, but his viewers nonetheless urged him to seek medical attention.

While surge protectors can be useful in keeping electronics safe during power outages, the leading advice remains to stay away from anything that’s plugged in during an electrical storm. In recent times, other gamers have gone through similar things, with anotherTwitch streamer getting shocked while playingRocket League. In their case, the electrical surge was powerful enough to cause visible damage to their PlayStation controller’s USB port, and the streamer suffered minor burns. Given the proximity of the earbuds to chrispymate’s brain and eyes, it’s a very lucky thing that he didn’t come out of the experience with significant injuries.
