One ofHalo Infinite’smost beloved Forge creation teams - The Forge Falcons - has confirmed that it’s stepping away from the live-service game, citing a “lack of support” from developer Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries). The Forge Falcons are known for creating some of the most innovative experiences inHalo Infinite’sForge mode, so their departure is a bit of a heavy blow.
First introduced in 2007’sHalo 3,Forge mode came toHalo Infinitein late 2022 and has become a mainstay of the first-person shooter’s live-service model. Forge is a powerful and expansive mapmaker that allowsHaloplayers to design custom maps and game modes, many of which have even been featured in matchmaking and official promotions. As Halo Studios slowed down development on new multiplayer maps forHalo Infinitein the past year or so, Forge and community creators picked up the slack to provide players with fresh content.
Among these creators, The Forge Falcons was one of the most renowned as the team developed some majorHalo InfiniteForge projects, like the Inheritor battle royale mode, aCall of Duty: Zombies-inspired mode dubbed “Survive the Undead,” and even theHelljumpers mode that emulatesHelldivers 2’s co-op chaos. Unfortunately, despite their high-profile contributions, The Forge Falcons recently revealed that they received little to no acknowledgment or support from Halo Studios, and so havedecided to leaveHalo Infinitebehind.
The Forge Falcons Quitting Halo Infinite Over “One-Sided” Relationship with Halo Studios
In a lengthy statement posted on Twitter, The Forge Falcons described their relationship with Halo Studios as “one-sided,” citing lack of creative input, minimal assistance, and no compensation - even as their work was heavily promoted by Xbox and included inHalo Infinite’s seasonal updates. The Forge Falcons stressed they never expected any financial compensation, but being used for marketing purposes without even a “sincere thank you” left a sour taste, and other prominent Forge creators have supposedly left for similar reasons too. While Halo Studios does credit Forgers in trailers and blog posts, The Forge Falcons argue this falls far short of meaningful collaboration.
As for what’s next for The Forge Falcons, they revealed plans to pivot toward building in Unreal Engine for live-service juggernautFortnite, as Epic Games offers a more structured and rewarding system for creators via its Island Creator Program. Halo Studios has yet to comment on The Forge Falcons dropping support forHalo Infinite, but the broader community has expressed support for the creator team, demanding adequate acknowledgment and compensation for those who keep the game chugging along as the developer chips away on its next project - heavilyrumored to bea Halo: Combat Evolvedremake.
