In the last couple of years,Solo Leveling’spopularity has increased tenfold. With just two seasons, it has had a drastic impact on the anime industry. While there are many positives linked to Solo Leveling, it isn’t devoid of drawbacks. One of the main problems associated with Solo Leveling is the standard of animation. The Solo Leveling anime has set adangerous precedent. Fans have begun expecting other titles to have a similar level of animation. There is one new contender from Summer 2025 that can actually overtake Solo Leveling in terms of popularity.
Lord of the Mysteries Has The Potential To Surpass Solo Leveling
Lord of the Mysteries Can Become One Of The Best Anime
Lord of the Mysteries (also written as Lord of Mysteries)is based on a Chinese web novel written by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving. The series is set in a Victorian-era-inspired world, and it has themes of steampunk, horror, and dark fantasy.Lord of the Mysteries is already popular on Qidian, but with the anime adaptation on the way, it’s aiming to reach mainstream audiences.
The Lord of the Mysteries anime was announced a while back, and fans were hoping that B.C May PICTURES would do the novel justice. Judging from the trailer and the first two episodes, it’s become rather clear that the studio is not holding back and wants to take the anime to the very top.
Lord of the Mysteries released two episodes on June 28, 2025, and they’re available to stream on Crunchyroll. Fans who have watched the episodes are in awe of the animation’s quality, and they genuinely believe it can hold its own against the big names.
While it is good to be optimistic, fans should remember that the season is far from over. B.C May PICTURES needs to maintain the same level of quality throughout the run. Additionally, the studio also needs to raise the bar when it comes to the fighting sequences. This will be the defining factor in whether Lord of the Mysteries can overtake Solo Leveling or not. Solo Leveling doesn’t have a complicated story, and the arcs follow a similar pattern, so Lord of the Mysteries should have no problems whatsoever with overtaking the competition in this aspect. However, the animation quality is where Lord of the Mysteries is going to have to push the limits.
Solo Leveling Might Not Win Anime Of The Year Again
A few weeks ago, Solo Leveling made the headlines after it won the best anime award at the Crunchyroll Awards. Many fans were outraged by the decision, as they believed Frieren was the better candidate, and it’s hard to deny the claim. Frieren is what people call a once-in-a-lifetime anime.
It is perfect in almost every regard, and there’s a reason why it supplanted the much-adored Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on MyAnimeList. Fans should not feelbad about Frieren losing the award, as it doesn’t make the series worse. Awards are in no way an indicator of a series' quality, but they do help to increase its fame. So, that’s the only downside.
Lord of the Mysteries Can Overtake Solo Leveling In 2025
While Solo Leveling won the award, there is a good chance that it will never happen again, and it’s not because it will suffer from a drop in quality. In fact, the main reason is that the competition is getting too fierce. Lord of the Mysteries is just one of the many contenders that will challenge Solo Leveling for the award. The others include Dandadan, Demon Slayer, One Piece, Dr. Stone, and Grand Blue. These are some other titles that will be competing with Solo Leveling in the coming years.
It is also worth mentioning that Frieren is releasing the second season in 2026, and it will onceagain be produced by Madhouse. So, there is reason to presume that it will suffer from a drop in quality. Additionally, Wit Studio is working on the One Piece remake. So far, the studio hasn’t released a trailer or given a release date, but that is expected to change in the coming months. For the time being, Lord of the Mysteries will be the main threat to Solo Leveling’s crown.
