It seems as though poor George R.R. Martin just can’t seem to catch a break from everyone these days, as his writing (or lack of it) has come under scrutiny lately, and nowThe Witcherauthor, Andrzej Sapkowski, has thrown his opinion into the ring about Martin’sThe Winds of Winterdelay while promising more future books.
Fans already know thatThe Witcherseason 4 is on the horizon, and even though some aren’t too happy about no longer seeing Henry Cavill in his leather pants when the fantasy series returns or how its showrunners have developed its storylines, it was previously reported that the TV show’s showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, has found a way to explainHenry Cavill’s recasting through plot details in Season 4and will weave in Cavill’s departure through the book characters, Nimue and Stribog. However, even this news has confused fans as to why Cavill’s recasting needs an explainer, with many saying that all they want is the series to stick to its source material.
Andrzej Sapkowski Tells Witcher Fans Not To Worry, More Books Are on the Way (Unlike George R. R. Martin)
As reported byRedanian Intelligence, Andrzej Sapkowski recently spoke at the Opole book festival in Poland about what he’s been up to, including telling fans thatmoreWitcherbooks will be coming.However, while on the subject of writing, Sapkowski expressed thatWitcherfans won’t need to worry because “unlike George R. R. Martin, whom, by the way, I know personally — when I say I’ll write something, I will.“Although Sapkowski was only having a playful dig at his fellow writer friend, his comments are certainly something that Martin has grown very accustomed to.
Sapkowski went on to say that he empathized with Martin and whyThe Winds of Winterhasn’t come out yet, stating that he too would be annoyed if a TV series got “ahead of what I intended to write, I’d also be wondering whether there’s any point in writing anymore,” referring to the ending of HBO’sGame of Thrones. “It’s nice when they adapt your work, that’s the author’s bloody right, but to adapt what doesn’t exist yet, to extrapolate like that? That’s just indecent.”
“So Martin still isn’t writing, probably because he got offended that they filmed the continuation [ofGame of Thrones], but I bet he didn’t give the money back, knowing how life goes. I wouldn’t have given it back.”
The Witcherauthor also revealed that he hasn’t seen Netflix’sNightmare of the Wolfanime orSirens of the Deep, opting to remain quiet about most adaptations, as he worries too much about what fans would think of his opinions on them. “I appear in the end credits. Which means: if I say something positive, you’ll say, ‘Well, of course, the magpie praises its own tail.’ And if I say something negative, you’ll say, ‘Idiot.’ So I won’t say anything.”
Although Andrzej Sapkowski doesn’t reveal when even moreWitcherbooks will hit the shelves,Crossroads of Ravens, which was released in Poland last year, will be distributed to the rest of the world later this year. As forseason 4 ofThe Witcher, this too is expected to hit Netflix at some stage in 2025, but an exact date has not been announced yet.
