Helldivers 2CEO Shams Jorjani has responded after players voted to give the rebuilt city of Remembrance a hilarious name. It’s a good reminder that if given a choice, gamers will always choose the funniest option in any specific situation, and that doesn’t just apply toHelldivers 2.
FollowingHelldivers 2’s recent Battle of Super Earth, the ongoing storyline has seen the rebuilding job begin. When it came to rebuilding the fallen city of Remembrance, Arrowhead Game Studios put the name to a player vote. Options included the apt New Remembrance, Everlasting Memory, Winds of Change of Tides of War, Peacebeacon’s Bloodlight, and Gun. Some of these would have been fine, but theHelldivers 2players went with the hilarious Gun, winning a staggering 72% of the 85,000+ votes.
The name is so funny and strange, that some players can’t quite believe that Arrowhead Game Studios will follow through with it. One user took to theactiveHelldivers 2Discordand asked Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani directly whether Gun City is real. Jorjani responded, “I really don’t know where we are with that. I personally hope we go the managed democracy route and pick something else.”
Helldivers 2 Players Vote to Rename City ‘Gun,’ CEO Hopes to ‘Pick Something Else’
On the surface, it doesn’t seem like great news for those who want to see Gun become a reality. However, Jorjani offered a little more hope in a follow-up message, clarifying that “the people have spoken.” With such an overwhelming mandate versus the other options, it would be a shame for another name to be chosen in Gun’s stead. It’s worth remembering, though, thatHelldivers 2’s Super Earthis a managed democracy, as opposed to a true one, so anything can happen.
I personally hope we go the managed democracy route and pick something else.
AsHelldivers 2continues to thrive, the game still has plenty of life left. Arrowhead Game Studios has done an excellent job of keeping players engaged over a long period of time, with votes like this a key factor in why gamers are still so interested in the ongoing Galactic War. It was recently confirmed thatHelldivers 3is still many years away, and there’s no reason for the developer to rush anything while the second game remains so popular.
