Summary
Harry Potteris a series full of powerful wizards and witches whomake a resounding impact with their actions. The magic-wielding women in this series are powerful, well-written, and can duke it out with the best wizards in the series.
Some of these witches use this power for evil, while others fight for the side of good. Either way, fans know something serious is about to go down when these characters decide to join a battle and show the wealth of powers they have at their disposal.
8Fleur Delacour
The Beauxbatons Student Is Chosen To Enter The Goblet Of Fire
While Fleur Delacourdoesn’t get too many moments to shine in the series, there’s no denying that she’s a talented witch. The combination of beauty and talent ensured that she was the best candidate from Beauxbatons to represent the school inThe Goblet of Fire.
She’s clearly talented and can fend for herself whenever the situation demands it. She might not have had too many opportunities to show off her magical talent in combat, but that should take nothing away from Fleur’s competency at being a witch.
7Dolores Umbridge
An Authoritarian Employee In The Ministry Of Magic
One of the most hated characters in the series, Dolores Umbridge, is a minister who becomes the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and does nothing to teach students how to defend themselves. This is puzzling, especially since it’s clear that Dolores is a talented witch who can certainly help the students if she puts her mind to it.
Instead, she takes over Dumbledore’s spot as the new headmistress of Hogwarts and abuses her power. Seeing her be dragged away by the centaurs was incredibly satisfying, with Harry and the others finally able to focus on the threat of the Death Eaters.
6Nymphadora Tonks
A Shapeshifting Witch Who Is Quite Powerful
A shapeshifting member ofThe Order of the Phoenix, it’s clear that Tonks boasted impressive magical prowess if she was chosen to be a member of this secret group. Throughout the series, her romance with Lupin makes for an interesting arc that fans were hopeful to see the conclusion to.
Alas, this was not meant to be. Despite her immense magical talent, the assault of the Death Eaters on Hogwarts was too much to bear, and both she and Lupin died to bring their romance to a crashing halt.
5Hermione Granger
A Prodigy Who Can Use A Variety Of Complex Spells
The smartest member of the trio who always saves their skin when it comes to academic pursuits,Hermione is one of the best characters in the series. Her know-it-all attitude becomes endearing after a point, to the point where Ron simply can’t resist her charms anymore.
Her intelligence helps her become one of the most talented witches in the series, being able to use complicated spells and aid the gang in their plans. By the end of the series, she has become a distinguished witch and one of the most powerful characters inHarry Potter.
4Minerva McGonagall
A Transfiguration Expert With Immense Magical Skill
The iconic Transfiguration professor with a heart of gold, Minerva McGonagall, can be unbearably stern at times. However, it’s clear to everyone that she deeply cares for her students andwill exhibit moments of tenderness at times.
She played a key role in protecting Hogwarts from the Death Eaters and is one of Dumbledore’s most knowledgeable allies. She guides the students competently to the very end, even when Death Eaters had taken over Hogwarts and were in the process of ruining everything Dumbledore stood for.
3Bellatrix Lestrange
An Unhinged, Evil Dark Witch Who’s No Joke
A Death Eater with no remorse, Bellatrix is one of the most evil characters in the series, whodeserved her death at the hands of Molly Weasley. She was an unhinged witch who became one of Voldemort’s most loyal allies, simply because of how capable she was at ruining other people’s lives.
Her torture broke the minds of Neville’s parents, and she was directly responsible for Sirius' death. Given how horrid yet powerful this character was, fans could breathe a sigh of relief when this powerful witch was taken out of the equation in the final battle.
2Helga Hufflepuff
A Witch Has To Be Very Powerful To Be One Of The Founders Of Hogwarts
While fans never got to see the powers of the Hogwarts founders firsthand, it’s clear that these wizards and witches were very powerful if they had the influence to found a wizarding school. Unlike the other founders, Helga was welcoming to all and treated every student equally.
Her food-related charms became legendary and are still used in Hogwarts to this day. It’s arguably just a taste (no pun intended) of her true power as a witch, making her one of the most legendary figures inHarry Potterlore.
1Rowena Ravenclaw
The Smartest Hogwarts House Is Named After This Enigmatic Figure
It’s clear that the smartest founding member of Hogwarts would also boast one of the most powerful reputations in the series. This is precisely why the idea of facing Rowena Ravenclaw in her prime would scare anyone.
Being proficient at casting the Patronus charm, enchanting the Sorting Hat to help it gain sentience, and deciding the magical architecture of Hogwarts are just a few of the many ways Rowena has established her legacy in the world ofHarry Potteras one of the strongest witches to ever exist.
