Summary

Though there are manyDevil Fruit abilities inOne Piecethat are pretty straightforward in how they work, there are still some that are a little more technical andcomplex, making it much trickier for the host to get a good handle on their new ability. This doesn’t inherently mean that these Devil Fruit powers are bad, though. In fact, most of them can be absolutely devastating in the right hands, though it does mean that the user will need to be fully aware of all the precautions and requirements that come with possessing such an obscure fruit to use it safely.

Some of these abilities are so complex that fans are still left wondering how they even work, or what their true potential is, considering there is still much more to learn about many of them. With that being said, it’s time to take a closer look at some ofthe most mind-boggling and complicated Devil Fruits that have appeared so far inOne Piece.

8Flower Flower Fruit

The Number Of Ways Robin’s Fruit Can Be Used Are Endless

Robin has one ofthe most bizarre Devil Fruit powers in the entire series, but it’s one that has certainly saved the Straw Hats' backsides on more than a few occasions. The way it works is that Robin can sprout limbs from any surface she can see. In theFlower Flower Fruit’smost basic form, Robin can summon giant hands or feet to crush any Marines who stand in the way of her crew. While this would probably be the only way that Luffy would use it if he had possession of the fruit, Robin likes to get a little more technical.

For example, back in the earlier arcs of the series, she had a tendency to sprout ears on the surrounding walls to listen in on other people’s conversations. Not only that, she was also able to create makeshift wings by combining a bunch of hands together on her back. Needless to say, this is a fruit that may seem basic on the surface, but is actually pretty complex in terms of the many ways it can be used in practice.

7Hobby Hobby Fruit

There’s A Lot More To Sugar’s Fruit Than Meets The Eye

Sugar served as one of Dofamingo’s most valuable assets back in theDressrosa arc, and the reason she was seen as so useful, despite appearing as a literal child, is because her ability helped control the population of the island. With a single touch, Sugar is able to turn someone into a toy, and while that may seem pretty easy to understand on the surface, there’s an abundance of side effects and caveats to theHobby Hobby Fruitthat the user needs to be aware of.

For one, anyone who is turned into a toy will essentially be erased from existence, since everyone who knew them will completely forget they ever existed in the first place. Not only that, but anyone who consumes the Hobby Hobby Fruit will also stop aging, which is why Sugar has the appearance of an 11-year-old, despite being in her twenties. This powerful Devil Fruit has an essential fine print attached that ends up making it a little more technical than some might expect.

6Stone Stone Fruit

Pica’s Fruit Isn’t A Logia, But It Sure Acts Like One

In hindsight, it’s fairly easy to get a grasp of how Pica’s Devil Fruit works, but back in the Dressrosa arc, it had many people scratching their heads. The reason for this is that, while the menacing Pica can turn himself into a stone mountain, this doesn’t actually work the same way as the other Logia Fruits seen in the series up to that point, since Pica is unable to summon the stone out of thin air.

Instead, it’s explained that Pica needs to merge with a stone surface to then take control of it, which he can seemingly then bend and rotate to his will in order to crush his enemies. For example, Pica was able to merge himself with Dressrosa Castle to then take on a giant, brutish form, whicheven Zoro had some trouble dealing with. Because it appears to be a pretty simple Logia on the surface, but is actually something very different in reality, theStone Stone Fruitis one of those fruits that took viewers a little while to fully understand.

5Isle Isle Fruit

Blackbeard and his rag-tag crewhave been collecting some absurdly powerful Devil Fruits throughout the story, but Pizzaro might just be the strangest of the bunch. There are several scenes in the story where Pizzaro’s face can be seen popping out of a wall or building on an island, and there was even a moment where he was able to extend giant arms from an island to crush a barrage of incoming ships.

This is all thanks to his Devil Fruit, theIsle Isle Fruit, which enables Pizarro to not just merge with an island, but become the island itself. Once the setup stage is complete, he can then manipulate the land in any way he wants, whether it be to create new structures and landscapes, or in most cases, to simply demolish anyone that Blackbeard deems a target. It’s definitely not as straightforward as his fellow crewmate Burgess' Strong Strong Fruit, but it’s still an ability that is no doubt going to be highly useful to Blackbeard in the near future.

4Human Human Fruit, Model: Nika

Luffy’s Fruit Turned Out To Be A Lot More Powerful Than It Initially Seemed

For most of theOne Piecestory, fans are led to believe that Luffy’s Devil Fruit grants the plucky protagonist an elastic body, and while this is technically still true, it was revealed in Wano that this fruit is actually a lot more complex than it may seem. The truth is, theHuman Human Fruitis directly related to the Sun God Nika; a symbol of freedom and liberation who Luffy can essentially turn into any time he unleashes his underlying power.

That’s not all, though, as the fruit was also owned by the Legendary Joy Boy, which is a big reason why it is so highly sought after by the Marines. When Awakened, the fruit essentially turns everything in Luffy’s proximity into a giant cartoon, to the point where viewers still haven’t seen everything the fruit is capable of, since there are truly no limits to Luffy’s wild imagination. It goes without saying, but clearly, the rubber body is just one part of a much bigger and more complicated Devil Fruit ability.

3Egg Egg Fruit

A Zoan Fruit That Works Like No Other

Most of the time, aZoan Devil Fruitwill give the host the option to transform into an animal to greatly increase their strength, speed, and durability, but Tamago’s fruit works a little differently. There’s a lengthy process that Tamago needs to follow in order to unleash his true power, and it all starts with transforming into an egg. After the egg is broken, Tamago will then enter a new and better form from the yolk. This process needs to be repeated several times before he can awaken his final chicken form.

It seems that it wasn’t enough to just turn the host into a chicken from the get-go, as there’s obviously a lot more that goes into theEgg Egg Fruitthat makes it much more complex than many of the other Zoans in the story. It’s therefore a pretty obscure ability which has only ever been shown once back in the Whole Cake Island arc.

2Shadow Shadow Fruit

This Deadly Fruit Has A Laundry List Of Limitations And Extra Details

When Luffy and the crew arrive at Thriller Bark, it’s not long before they realize that the entire ship is almost entirely composed of zombies. The reason for this is thatthe ship’s captain, Gecko Moria, has used hisShadow Shadow Fruitto bring these corpses back to life to serve as his own personal bodyguards. By removing other people’s shadows, Moria can then insert them into others to bring them back to life, turning them into zombies whom he will then have full control over.

This might sound simple enough, but what makes Moria’s fruit so complex is the staggering amount of extra details and precautions that the user needs to keep in mind. For example, the zombies cannot be exposed to saltwater, as this will break Moria’s control, but they also cannot remain in sunlight when their shadow is gone, as this will disintegrate them in mere seconds. It doesn’t stop there. Moria can also collect all the shadows from his zombies in one fell swoop, allowing him to grow larger if needed. This is one of the most fun Devil Fruits to investigate, as there’s a fascinating amount of information to learn about. Because of its technicalities, it was a fruit that Luffy and the gang had quite a bit of trouble dealing with.

1Op Op Fruit

Law Can Combine, Remove, And Dissect Pretty Much Anything

Despite being used countless times throughout the story, the Ope Ope no Mi, aka theOp Op Fruit,is a fruit that is still hard for fans to wrap their head around, which makes sense considering how bizarre it is in practice. To put it simply, once Law activates his fruit, he then has full control over everything and anyone within close proximity. As a result, he can play God while everyone else remains defenseless to his powers, and there are a few ways he’s been able to utilize this.

For example, as a child, Law was able to removethe incurable Amber Lead diseasefrom his own body, and much later in the story, he can be seen removing other people’s organs without them even realizing it. Back on Punk Hazard, Law was even able to switch the Straw Hats' bodies, and while this led to some hilarious shenanigans, it also made fans wonder just how far this ability could truly go. It also doesn’t help that the descriptions of how the Ope Ope no Mi works have always been fairly vague at best, making for a pretty complicated ability, which is often regarded as being one of the most broken in all ofOne Piece.
