One of the best things aboutStronghold Crusader: Definitive Editionis playing through the Historical Campaigns, which followthe numerous Crusadesand other wars in the Holy Land. The first of these is calledThe Call to Arms, and is comprised of5 missions. The first is fairly easy, but by the second,things get increasingly harder, and players may find themselves failing the objectives and having to start again.
Remember toslow down time with the - keywhen things are tough or overwhelming, and also at thestart of each missionwhen playersneed to do multiple things first. Players can alsouse cheats inStronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, including to unlock missions they can’t get past.
Nicaea, Arrival in The Holy Land - Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Objective: Acquire 450 Gold
After clearing out Nicaea, players are tasked withraising 450 Goldfor the crusade. As there will beno more combat, players canconvert their troops back to normal peasants, but only do so after building enough Hovels to increase the maximum population size.
There aretwo ways to make Goldin this mission:tax the populationfrom the Manor House andsell surplus goods from the Marketplace. Goods to sell include Stone, Wood, and food.
Heraclea, The Journey South - Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Objective: Acquire 300 Bread
The aim of the Heraclea, The Journey South mission is toacquire 300 Breadto feed the army for the upcoming campaign. Players have a large, fertile oasis to work with, but they will also beattacked occasionally, so theymust raise troops.
The large oasis for farmingcan sustain a large population, so in time,build more Hovelsto increase the population. Early on, build an Armory to store weapons and thenmake two Poleturner’s Workshopsto produce spears, and construct a Barracks torecruit Spearmen, as you start with six Archers.
Antioch, The Counter-Siege - Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Objective:Eliminate All Enemy Units
The third mission in The Call to Arms campaign is simple to understand. Players are givena castle to defend, and theenemy will attack three timesand must be wiped out. There is a timer showing how long players have until the last battle.
There isno way to import goods, andrunning out of foodis a seriousconcernduring the siege. Only fight the enemy under the walls, andhold your melee units in reserveuntil they are needed.
Krak de Chevaliers, The Siege of Arqah - Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Objective: Acquire 50 Ale
In the Krak de Chevaliers mission, players are tasked withbuilding their own castle to defend against enemy raids, whilst the main objective is toproduce and store 50 Ale. Players shouldprioritize defenses, troops, and food productionbefore thinking about Ale.
Place yourkeep on top of the rock formation, and eventuallycut off the two entrances with walls, gatehouses, and towers.
To make Ale, once the settlement is up and running, players will needHops FarmsandBreweries.
The difficulty can always be turned down, and players wouldn’t need to produce as much Ale.
Jerusalem, The Final Assault - Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition
Objective: Kill The Enemy Lord Before Time Runs Out
In this final assault on Jerusalem, there isno building. Playersstart with an armyand must siege the city and eventuallykill the enemy lord. There is atime limit, as otherwise, an Egyptian army will take the crusaders in the rear.
It’s best toattack the left side of the city, rather than the front, as this way defenders on the right wall are useless.
