The existence of your crew is supposed to be a secret inThe Alters, but you may come clean and tell the truth to Lena if you decide that additional assistance from Ally Corp is the best way to ensure your survival. Telling Lena about your decision to branch yourself will drastically change the story ofThe Alters, but it might be the best thing for you and your crew depending on your outlook.
The Altersgives the player two major paths to follow during the majority of the game, ultimately culminating in a huge decision between Maxwell and Lena at the end of the second act. You can tell Lena about the Alters any time before this decision, though. So, should you open up to her, or is it better to keep your mouth shut and pretend that you’re the only one in the base?
Should You Tell Lena About the Alters?
There are multiple things to consider if you want to tell Lena the truth about your situation inThe Alters. It has some major story repercussions that rear their head atthe end of Act 2, but it does change some things leading up to that point. For example, Lena can affect the moods of your Alters. The Botanist is still married to her in his memories, so being kind to Lena and seeking her advice will lift his spirits.
If you tell Lena about the Alters, Lucas and Maxwell will be incredibly upset with you. Branching was supposed to be a secret, and since Ally Corp has gotten in the way of their research once before, they won’t be too happy that they’re getting involved this time around, too. Lena finding out about the Alters will alsocompletely lock you out of Maxwell’s ending.
If you keep Lena in the dark about the Alters, you’ll still have Maxwell’s ending as an option during Act 3. Without telling Lena about your crew, however, you won’t be able touse the Ally Corp implantson your Alters at the end of Act 2. You’ll be forced to go with Maxwell’s Tabula Rasa plan, and this will greatly upset some of your Alters.
Ultimately, the decision to tell Lena about the Alters comes down towhich ending you want. Unless you really want to work with Maxwell and further his Rapidium research, telling Lena about the Alters is the best path forward since it opens up many more possibilities in the game’s final act.
