InThe Alters, most of your alters have had a relationship with a woman named Lena. However, there are a couple of alters who don’t know her at all or did not date or marry her in an alternate lifetime.
One of the alters inthe gamewho didn’t know Lena was the Refiner; he was instead in a relationship with a man named Ben, who died in an unfortunate accident. If you keep chatting with the Refiner, you will find out that he wants to make sure that Ben doesn’t die in this timeline, too.
The Refiner and Ben in The Alters
As you get moreQubit Chips and upgrade the Quantum Computer inThe Alters, you will be able to make more alters of yourself. At any point in the game that you have a free slot, you can get the Refiner. He will ask for a handful of items to help him rebuild his body. The first item he will ask for is the barbells, then a gym or an upgrade for the gym if you already have one. Once you complete those two tasks, Jan Refiner will finally tell you what he really wants: to know if his boyfriend is alive and well back on Earth.
You need to then ask Lucas for help tracking Ben down, making sure he’s alive, and then telling the Refiner that Ben is still around in this timeline. Once all those steps are complete, if you havechosen the Implants over the Tabula Rasa, you have the option to then ask Lena to make an anonymous tip to close down the oil rig where Ben works.
How To Save Ben In The Alters
The short answer isyes. There is actually anachievement inThe Altersfor saving him calledKeeping Him Safe. But there are several things you will need to have completed or chosen in order for this to happen.
