The Altersis a game of big decisions. to survive the mission, collect the Rapidium you are on this planet for, and get back to Earth, you will need to be a leader and get your alters doing their chores.
In between keeping the alters happy, farming minerals, and upgrading your base, you’ll also have to make some calls between what seems like two bad choices. This guide will give you a breakdown of what all those choices are, when they take place, and what you should do about them inThe Alters.
Which Alters to Choose in The Alters
One of the decisions that can completely change your experience with the game is what alters you choose to make. You have six total slots in any given playthrough, and youhave to choose the Technician and Scientist. There are four other slots for alters, and you have seven to choose from.
Depending on how good you are to your alters, you may never need the Guard or the Shrink. But each one will have a uniquelesson to teach you inThe Alters, and they will each have their own story and personality.
Molly’s Autopsy
There is a small choice at the beginning ofAct 2 ofThe Alters: what to do about Molly’s body. The Technician will push you to give her an autopsy before burying her body, but you’re able to also say no to this. While it seems like a small thing in the moment, it will become a much bigger deal later on in Act 2.
The Implant or the Tabula Rasa
The first massive decision you will have to make will involve what to do about the alters that will die. Maxwell gives you the option to make aTabula Rasa for your alters, quite literally translated as a “clean slate,” which is an alter of yourself with no memories or personality. You will then have to remove his brain and use it to make a serum to save your alters.
The other option is to go with Jan’s ex-wife Lena’s suggestion. She sends blueprints for an implant that will be injected into the alters, and it will make them visible to Ally Corp and potentially get them killed. you’re able to only choose one of these options, and boththe Implant and the Tabula Rosawill feel like bad decisions.
Whether to Contact the Rebels or Not
If you choose the Tabula Rasa, there are some alters that cannot and will not forgive you for it. The same is true the other way around with the implants. So some of your alters will rebel, regardless of what you try to tell them. When the rebellious alters leave the base, you may track them down before leaving, and even attempt tobring your alters back to your base in Act 3 ofThe Alters.
The Endings of The Alters
There are a grand total of six different endings you can get, depending on which choices you make throughout the game and in Act 3. These choices include repercussions from previous choices, how you handle the corporation infiltrating your base, and whether or not you choose to trust Lucas. There are six total endings you can get with some variations depending on which alters you choose and what weapons you choose against the corporation. These are:
