ANintendo Switch 2user has issued a warning to the community about using third-party chargers to power the console’s dock, as a concerning difference in voltage was discovered during a technical investigation. TheNintendo Switch 2was finally announced back in January 2025, after months of speculation, and the console officially hit shelves at the beginning of June 2025. Debuting with theMario Kart Worldlaunch title, the Switch 2 boasts both hardware and software improvements, including a larger display and more internal storage.
Four days after the Switch 2’s release, Nintendo reported that the console had sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide, making it the company’s fastest-selling console to date. Furthermore, a recent report has confirmed that theSwitch 2 sales have surpassed Xbox and PlayStation digital consoles in one region, proving the popularity of Nintendo’s successor handheld.
Posted on Reddit by UhhBirb, screenshots and a detailed report were shared on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, warning players of using a third-party charger to power the Switch 2’s dock. The user’s findings highlighted how one of the third-party chargers showed a 25% increase in total power consumption and noted that the difference in power was wasted as heat. While this means the dock is regulating the voltage properly, the extra power was said to be “not so great” for the hardware, which may result in a replacement dock needing to be purchased. While the warning against using third-party chargers isn’t a glaring issue, as each console sale comes with its own Nintendo-exclusive charger, it does add to the publisher’s other technical mishap that previously plagued the original console, as several reports have confirmed thatJoy-Con drift has returned to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 User Highlights Risk Of Using Third-Party Chargers
Despite the investigation, several Switch users confirmed they had used third-party chargers repeatedly and did not experience any issues, but some were adamant about sticking to first-party chargers to negate any problems, as they are “foolproof.” On a more positive note, the latestNintendo Switch 2 update did fix a backwards compatibility issuefor some games, referring to titles that use the Carbon Engine.
Another Switch 2 con that the industry has been discussing of late is the lack of games available, with the only real current draw beingMario Kart World. In addition to the upcomingDonkey Kong Bananzaand FromSoftware’s new IPThe Duskbloods,Nintendo fans may have a newAnimal Crossinggame to look forward to. If the rumors are true, Nintendo will allegedly host a Direct in July, which may announce the nextAnimal Crossinggame, thought to have a 2026 release date, according to insiders.
