One popular accessory for theNintendo Switch 2, designed to make the console easier to hold in undocked mode, is also reportedly causing Joy-Cons to disconnect from the main portion of the console itself. The Dbrand Killswitch 2 case forNintendo Switch 2has received several complaints from users, and its designers are actively working to fix the problem, going so far as to offer replacement grips.
One of the most easily noticeable differences between the Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor is the way that the console designers handled the creation of its Joy-Con controllers.Joy-Cons on the Nintendo Switch 2 featurelarger buttons, mouse functionality, and a C button for GameChat, but one of the biggest functional changes over the Joy-Cons on the original Switch is their connections to the console itself, which are now handled through magnets rather than locked in place with slider connections and buttons.
But those magnetic connections have been having trouble keeping their hold on the base for some players looking forSwitch 2 customization options, according to multiple posts from players who have been using the Dbrand Killswitch 2 case. In response, Dbrand initially acknowledged the problem in a lengthy Reddit post a few days ago, though the company stated that the issue only occurs when players are holding the console almost parallel to the ground by a single Joy-Con and not using their fingers to support the console’s base. This disconnection issue is reportedly the result of the lip that holds the casing in place over the Joy-Con interfering with the air gap, which is designed to prevent Joy-Cons from touching the console base when flex pressure is applied, but Dbrand is adamant that the lip solution for holding the casing in place is superior to the alternative, which would be to use an adhesive.
Dbrand is Replacing Switch 2 Joy-Con Grips for Free
After fans responded poorly to the initial post, with some feeling that Dbrand had passed the blame onto them for holding their Switch 2s wrong, the company is now offering free replacements to all customers that will have a much thinner retaining lip. These items have already been mass-produced, and customers should receive notification of the replacements by email, but the company is tinkering with an even better solution to theSwitch 2 accessorythat could completely eliminate the disconnection issue and will inform customers of its mass-production viability following a trial run set for July 10.
While not as widespread, some fans have also complained about issues connecting to theSwitch 2 dockwhen using a Killswitch 2. Dbrand is taking responsibility for this issue as well, acknowledging that it sold a few players a “lemon,” and offering them replacements by contacting the company through email.
