Peak, the latest game from indie studios Aggro Crab and Landfall Games, has been doing huge numbers since its Steam release last week and may be looking to come to Xbox and PlayStation as well. What started as a small unreleased “game jam” title earlier in the year was quickly developed into a full game release on Steam in just a few months.Peakputs up to four players together on a journey to climb a treacherous mountain full of obstacles and perils of all sorts.
This year has already had one massively popular co-op game release inHazelight Studios’Split Fiction. Following up 2021’s Game of the YearIt Takes Twowas surely no easy feat for the premier co-op studio, butSplit Fiction, a story about two writer friends who each specialize in sci-fi and fantasy writing, was a major success when it launched earlier this year, with a 90 on OpenCritic. Another co-op game garnered some buzz during Summer Game Fest:Out of Words, a co-op adventure game that dazzles with its real handcrafted claymation art style. As for other climbing games,Cairnis coming out later this year, but is a single-player adventure that features more realistic climbing mechanics, much like Don’t Nod’sJusant, which was released in 2023.
There’s beena ton of buzz surroundingPeaksince its launch last week, as the game has sold an impressive two million copies on Steam, much to Aggro Crab and Landfall’s surprise. In the officialPeakDiscord server, the developers put up an FAQ post answering some of fans' most commonly asked questions about the co-op climber. For one of the questions about the game’s platforms, the developers answered that while they’re focused on PC right now, they “might decide to support more platforms” in the future. The game is currently only available on Steam and, by extension, Steam Deck.
Peak Might Come to Consoles in the Future
Aggro Crab and Landfall Games could simply mean other PC storefronts like Epic Games Store and GOG when they say they might support other platforms. However, there’s no question that a large swath of console gamers on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch 2 are clamoring forPeak. Judging by how quicklyPeakwas reportedly turned into a full game release, it’s possible that potential console ports could happen by the end of the year, if not by early 2026, that is,ifPeakdoes decide to come to consoles. With two million sold on PC in just nine days, there’s no doubtPeakwould also do massive numbers across Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, especially if the game retains its $8 price tag.
Both Aggro Crab and Landfall Games have official Twitter accounts, so interested console gamers should follow them for any potential console port updates. Furthermore,Peak’s Discord server is filled with tons more information about the game, so it’s also worth checking there for any news about an Xbox, PlayStation, orSwitch 2 release.
