Since the release of its first DLC last fall,Starfieldhas been lying dormant. Bethesda’s space adventure has struggled to reach the same heights as the developer’s past projects, but there are still plenty of ways thatStarfieldcould evolve. Right now, many players are awaiting fresh news. Whether it’s an expansion or a smaller content update remains to be seen, but Bethesda may finally break the silence next month.

Bethesda has been confirmed for this year’s Gamescom, and the event’s Opening Night Live ceremony tends to be filled with major announcements. It’s unclear what Bethesda has planned to showcase at the event, but many are expecting the game’s second DLC or the long-rumored PS5 port. There is still a short wait ahead before the events of Gamescom, but no matter what Bethesda brings forth, the developer may want to consider an extra dose of content by adding in-game pets to the equation.

Adding Pets to Starfield Could Be a Small, But Effective, Way to Enhance the Game’s World

Criticisms of Starfield’s In-Game World Continue to Hold the Game Back

Ever since the title hit the scene back in 2023, one of the biggest critiques has been thatStarfieldfeels sterile. Granted, there is still a lot going forStarfield, and Bethesda hopefully has more content ideas ready to arrive sometime in the future, but only time will tell.

Afterthe lukewarm reception toShattered Space, Bethesda may need to come out swinging with its next round of content offerings. Of course, adding pets into the mix may not be a mind-blowing addition, but it would definitely be something that could add an extra bit of spice toStarfield’s world.

Starfieldmay not be the only project that Bethesda has to showcase at Gamescom. There have been rumors of aFallout 3remaster, while an update regardingThe Elder Scrolls 6has been anticipated since the game was first announced all the way back in 2018.

Starfield Could Recapture the Magic of One of Bethesda’s Best Companions

After running into Codsworth, one of the other earliest companions thatFallout 4players run into isa friendly pooch named Dogmeat, and he continues to be a beloved option. Players can decorate him with armor and use him as a great tracker, making him one of the game’s most versatile companions. Beyond his usefulness as a companion, he’s just cute, which makes traveling the wastelands with him more enjoyable than fellow humans.

It’s unclear what Bethesda has planned to showcase at the event, but many are expecting the game’s second DLC or the long-rumored PS5 port.

Starfield’s Pets Would Likely Be Quite Different From Fallout 4’s

As fun as a space-faring dog or cat would be, that may not fit in withStarfield’s grounded approach to sci-fi. Of course, there is the opportunity for a dog or cat to potentially have its own spacesuit, but hints found throughout the game also suggest that these particular animals may have gone extinct.Starfieldisn’t completely devoid of pets, though. Paisley Hopkins is an NPC that players can run into who has her own pet lizard, Grumble. He’s a plump, grumpy lizard that perfectly demonstrates how much fun a pet can be inStarfield’s setting.

Starfieldmay be stuck in a strange spot at the moment, but that doesn’t mean the game won’t have a chance at bouncing back. Fellow sci-fi titleCyberpunk 2077was able to rise from the ashes of even more substantial problems, so there is still plenty of hope forStarfield. With Gamescom on the horizon,Starfieldfans may finally get some long-awaited answers to questions about future content, and it’s hopefully worth the wait.
