8Hide And Seek

The first game of the final series comes with plenty of twists that turn a seemingly simplistic game of hide-and-seek into a living nightmare. The game itself is already a big surprise. Instead of players following some basic rules or competing against one another, they instead have tophysically killand survive to win.

There are quite a few unexpected moments throughout the game, but the biggest twist comes from the realization that in order to escape, the player needs all three key shapes to unlock the final door. This, combined with the high-paced nature of the game, makes the whole episode a thrill ride that could end in the death of any player at any moment.

7The Baby

The Worst Possible Timing

Jun-hee reveals her pregnancy early in season three, adding even more stakes to her fight in the games. But no one could have expected that during the games themselves, the baby would arrive and bring with it a whole new element for the players to deal with and protect.

The birth itself was a huge swing in the action, but it is later determinedthat after Jun-hee’s death, the baby should take her place as a player in the next game. This is largely down to the VIPs and their conversations, but the cruelty required to bring a newborn child into such a perilous situation was on a whole other level.

6Geum-ja’s Fate

Completely Out Of Nowhere

Geum-ja was a guiding light throughout her time in the games. At no point did she ever show any hatred towards another player, only wishing to help others in any way possible. But with her own son in the games, it was only a matter of time before things went wrong. Season three made her make the ultimate sacrifice, for which she paid a serious price.

After stabbing her son to save Jun-hee and her baby, Geum-ja lives with the guilt of her actions, and with so much weighing on her mind, she saw no other way out than to end her own life. The reveal was incredibly shocking, as the guards walked into the room with a coffin ready to dispose of an unknown body, which is quicky shown to be Geum-ja. It was one of the most chilling and unexpected deaths in the whole show.

5Captain Park’s Involvement

Closer Than Anyone Expected

Outside of the games, the crew is out searching for the island with the help of the elusive Captain Park. He initially saved Jun-ho after he was shot, and since then, the two have been on the waves looking for any sign of the games out in the open ocean. But season two showed that Park was up to no good, as he killed off the original drone pilot and covered his tracks from the others.

As things go on, Woo-seok begins to grow suspicious, discovering that not only is Park working for the creators of the game, but at some point in time, he posed as a guard and was closely linked to both the recruiter and In-ho himself. This revelation was already teased, but the extent of his involvement was much greater than expected, demonstrating the level of influence that the games have.

3Jun-hee’s Death

So Close To The End

During her time in the games, Jun-hee showed a lot of determination and demonstrated a will to survive unlike any other. A large part of that drive came from her pregnancy and then birth, pushing her to keep going when things were at their lowest so that her baby could survive.

When she managed to make it through the hide-and-seek game, there were a lot of questions about what the next game would be and how her injury and child would play a role. In the end, she chose to end her own life to stop Gi-hun from risking his own, as she hoped that if he lived, then her child could too. The scene is incredibly sad and ends hertime in the showin a bleak yet hopeful way.

2No-eul’s Daughter

Hope For The Future

No-eul is a fascinating character, as she is neither a player nor one of the members of the crew on the outside of the games. Instead, she takes on the role of a guard, but quickly changes her path when she recognizes a player from the outside and swears to do everything she can to save him and his child.

After plenty of struggles, she prevails and manages to make it back to the real world alive. But, in a twist of fate, she receives a call regarding her lost daughter, who is potentially still alive in China. The reveal is a sweet way to cap off her story and offers at least one happy ending in the midst of hundreds of losses.

Squid game season 3-11

1Myung-gi’s Turn Around

From Hero To Zero

Myung-gi steps in and out of the spotlight throughout the games, interacting with Thanos and his crew and being the father of Jun-hee’s baby. In season three, he goes through quite a character arc, continuing to care for Jun-hee whilst still showing some signs of evil with his actions in the games.

But in the final game, he is shown to be scheming the whole time, first working against Gi-hun, then with him, and finally against him once more, with every intention of winning the game alone by killing the baby. The twists and turns he takes are very unexpected. The fact that he would be willing to kill his own child just to make some extra money demonstrates his true cruel nature.
