WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Season 3 of Squid Games.

Squid Game’sthird and final season is now available to stream on Netflix, meaning that Hwang Dong-hyuk’s excellent dystopian thriller has finally reached its long-awaited conclusion. Fortunately, the ending answered a lot of important questions, while also giving closure to the stories of multiple characters, but it still wasn’t enough to leave viewers satisfied.

Season 3 also left a surprising number ofunanswered questionsrelated to plot threads that may eventually be resolved in a future sequel, prequel, or spin-off. Nevertheless, althoughSquid Gamehas technically already ended, it still has a lot of unsolved mysteries, and the following eight are the most noteworthy ones so far.

Oh Il-nam tells the Front Man that he’ll participate in the 2020 games - Squid Game

8How Were The Games Created?

Solving The Mystery Of The Games’ Origin

If there’s one thingSquid Gamefans want to know more than anything else, it’s how exactlyOh Il-namcreated the infamous games in the first place.Back in Season 1, he revealed that he was a rich business tycoon who once came up with the idea alongside his clients, but the exact details of how they managed to organize everything were left to the viewer’s imagination.

Many fans were hoping that Season 3 would feature a flashback scene of a young Il-nam creating the games, but this never ended up happening. Nevertheless, if Netflix keeps producing moreSquid Gameprojects in the future, it’s very likely that a prequel series or movie about the origins of the games may be released in the near future.

In-ho looking at his mask - Squid Game

7How Did In-Ho Become The Front Man?

The Corruption Of The Main Antagonist Of The Show

Hwang In-ho’s backstory is another huge mystery related to the origin of the games. Season 2 revealed vital information about his past, and Season 3 even featured a brief flashback, which showed he became the winner of the 2015 games by murdering all the other contestants in their sleep with a knife that Il-nam gave him. These reveals were nothing short of fascinating and also added a lot of depth to his character.

However, fans still can’t help but wonder: how exactly did he go from being just one of the winners to becoming the game’s Front Man and Il-nam’s successor? Based on the aforementioned flashback, it’s clear that Il-nam must have seen something in him, but it would still be interesting to see them working together in a future prequel series or movie.

The Front Man looking at Gi-hun’s corpse - Squid Game

6Did Gi-Hun’s Sacrifice Have An Impact On In-Ho?

It’s Not Clear If In-Ho Is Going On A Path To Redemption Or Not

The rivalry betweenSeong Gi-hunand Hwang In-ho was legendary, as the show’s antagonist repeatedly stated that humanity was worthless and that all the players deserved to suffer, and the protagonist tried to prove that humans were not mere playthings for him and his millionaire clients. At the very end of Season 3, Gi-hun did the unthinkable: he sacrificed himself so Jun-hee’s newborn baby could be safe and win the games in his place.

Weirdly enough, it seems that Gi-hun’s selfless action may have had some sort of impact on his longtime rival, but it wasn’t entirely clear. In-ho did take care of the baby for six months, before leaving her at Jun-ho’s house, not to mention that he also gathered all of Gi-hun’s money and gave it to his daughter living in America, something that he technically was not obliged to do, and most likely did out of respect for his dead rival. However, at the very end of the episode, In-ho exchanges looks with an American recruiter, which means that he most likely is still involved in the games in some way.

Jun-ho confronts his brother in Season 1 - Squid Game

5Will Jun-Ho Ever Stop His Brother?

This Intense Rivalry Between Brothers Was Left Unsolved

One of the most disappointing aspects of Season 3 is the factthat police detectiveHwang Jun-howas barely able to reach the island at the very last minute and confronted his brother, In-ho, for a few seconds, before escaping because the place was about to blow up. The strained relationship between these two brothers is one of the most interesting character dynamics inSquid Game, and yet this plot thread was left unsolved for a third time.

Now that Gi-hun is dead, Jun-ho is seemingly the only person with knowledge about the games who has the power to stop them, especially when considering that his own brother is the Front Man. Both of them need to appear in futureSquid Gamesequels or spin-offs in order to successfully close this plot thread, or else longtime fans of the IP will be left unsatisfied once again.

The baby wins the 2024 games after Gi-hun sacrifices himself - Squid Game

4What Exactly Will Happen To The Baby?

The Uncertain Future Of The Unexpected 2024 Winner

One of the biggest surprises of Season 3 was not only thatJun-hee gave birth to her daughter in the middle of the games, but thatthe babyeventually won the 2024 edition because many people, like her own mother and Seong Gi-hun, sacrificed themselves so she could get out alive. At the very end of the finale, Jun-ho finds the nameless baby in his apartment, alongside a debit card with all the money she had won.

The fate of the baby was left uncertain after that point, as it is unknown whether Jun-ho personally adopted her or if he left her with someone else. Nevertheless, an orphan baby with millions of won to her name is something that’s inevitably going to raise a lot of questions, so it would be fascinating to see what will happen to her in futureSquid Gameprojects.

No-eul confronts one of her superiors - Squid Game

3Did No-Eul Reunite With Her Daughter?

Fans Wonder If She Finally Got The Happy Ending She Deserved

Kang No-eulis one of the few characters in the show who not only survived the whole ordealbut also got a relatively happy ending. She was a Pink Soldier who rebelled against her superiors in order to rescue one of the players, Park Gyeong-seok, and make him reunite with his sick daughter. While she almost took her own life after she found out her family had died in North Korea, Gi-hun’s sacrifice inspired her to keep living and get out of the island before it blew up.

During the finale, No-eul receives a call from the broker, who tells her that her daughter is apparently still alive and was last seen in China. Kang No-eul’s final scene involves her getting on an airplane on the way to that country, but her fate was left mostly ambiguous, meaning that audiences never got to find out if her daughter was actually alive and if she successfully reunited with her.

The American Recruiter in the season finale - Squid Game

2Are The Games Taking Place In Other Countries Now?

The Worldwide Expansion Of The Games

While In-ho is in Los Angeles,he encounters a female recruiter playing ddakji with a man in an alley, and exchanges a weird look with her. This brief scene closes off the entire season (and, by extension, the entire show), but it left viewers with one burning question: Are the games taking place in theUnited Statesnow?

After all, In-ho was forced to destroy the entire island after the South Korean Coast Guard found it, so it would make sense that he and the VIPs would want to relocate to another country, and the US seemed like the perfect place to restart their operations. Of course, this scene may also be hinting that the games are actually taking place in more than one country at once, so maybe there are recruiters scattered all throughout the world.

Seong ga-yeong meets In-ho in Los Angeles - Squid Game

1Will Gi-Hun’s Daughter Find Out What Happened To Her Dad?

Maybe Ga-Yeong Will Become A Player Someday, Just Like Her Father

Squid Gameseason 3 ended with a scene of In-ho giving Gi-hun’s daughter,Seong Ga-yeong, all the prize money her father had previously earned. As endearing as this moment may initially seem, it’s also quite ominous, mainly because the Front Man also gave her a few of Gi-hun’s belongings: his bloody jumpsuit and a card with the numbers 456 on it.

It’s very clear that this had a huge impact on Ga-yeong, who went from criticizing her father because she thought he wasn’t answering her messages to finding out he had died a few seconds later. It’s possible that In-ho intentionally left these items with her just so she would try to find out what happened to her father, and, in order to do so, she would try to participate in the games when she’s older.
