Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Fans Call Out Blumhouse for Misgendering Bonnie

Posted on Reddit by ElliotSmelliot123, a screenshot of Blumhouse’s reply to a social media comment caught fans’ attention. The original comment noted Withered Bonnie looked perfect, and Blumhouse responded, saying, “She is terrifying and she is the moment.” The company’s response is reenacting the popular Wendy Williams meme, but the community was shocked to see Blumhouse address Bonnie as “she.” Bonnie uses He/Him pronouns, as specified on the game’sWiki, but because of the animatronic’s name, some have fallen into the trap of misgendering the antagonist, and Blumhouse has followed suit. In addition to the rabbit’s gender, the animatronic’s color has also been debated. Previously,Cawthon had to confirm Bonnie’s shadeto the fandom and the film adaptation’s team, which surprised all involved.

Redditors accused Blumhouse of not doing their homework, or perhaps the individual running the company’s social media account was out of the lore loop. On the other hand, one fan noted that, despite the original comment mentioning Withered Bonnie, the timestamp reference showed Withered Chica instead, which is confusing. Another Redditor pointed out that canonically, Withered Bonnie has never been gendered.Blumhouse recently bought the rights to theSawfranchise, which is another horror staple that has plenty of canonical history to keep track of.

In the build-up to the sequel’s release, fans are wondering ifFive Nights at Freddy’s 2will be scarierthan its predecessor. The main takeaway from the sequel’s new trailer was the design of the withered animatronics, showcasing pre-built incarnations of the antagonists. While some stated the film versions of these variants looked more terrifying than the games' designs, others were wondering why Withered Chica’s jaw wasn’t open as wide as in the source material. However, a few replies believed the animatronic’s jaw would drop open at a key point in the movie.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2025.
