Among the new generation of buildcrafting tools in The Edge of Fate expansion, surprisingly, Blue Engrams are once again back in the loot pool. Despite the recentPower reset inDestiny 2, many longtime players are likely coming into this expansion with a stacked inventory of god-roll legendary weapons, artifice armor, and Exotic loot, so opening a loot chest only to find a Blue Engram and some basic currency is far from ideal. This can be especially frustrating, givenDestiny 2’s history with underwhelming loot, specifically the ‘two tokens and a Blue’ meme.

This meme dates back toDestiny 2’s Curse of Osiris DLC from 2017 (which is now entirely in theDestiny Content Vault). During a showcase reveal for this DLC ahead of its release, gameplay of a new destination activity was shown off, which notably included the end rewards for the activity. Before the Curse of Osiris DLC, players were widely unhappy with the quality of loot that came from destination activities, so there were high hopes that this DLC would finally address this.
Unfortunately, when the shiny loot chest at the end of the activity was opened in the showcase reveal, it was quite comedic when the only rewards were some Glimmer, two basic token currencies, and a Blue Engram. Thus, ‘two tokens and a Blue’ became a famous moment inDestiny 2’s history.
Destiny 2 Has Come a Long Way Since the ‘Two Tokens and a Blue’ Meme Controversy
Flashing forward to The Edge of Fate expansion inDestiny 2’s Year of Prophecy 2025 roadmap, it’s been quite a long time since this meme has recirculated. Not only have the rewards from most activities gradually improved over the years since the Curse of Osiris DLC, but there was a specific change made rather recently that prevented players from earning Blue Engrams after reaching the Power level soft cap.
InDestiny 2’s Edge of Fate expansion, the Power level soft cap is 200, while the hard cap (max level) is currently 450.
Assuming this ban on Blues is still in effect, it won’t be long before players reach the Power soft cap in The Edge of Fate expansion and cut Blue Engrams out of their loot pool. So, even though somehow, the ‘two tokens and a Blue’ meme has returned, this predicament is far less of acontroversy inDestiny 2since it’s only temporary.
