Summary

Scream 7’s Ghostface may remain a mystery until the movie’s final act, butthe upcoming slasher sequel has more than a few old villains returning. Audiences are more than ready to seeGoofy Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard)and Roman Bridger (Scott Foley) again, and it’s hard to know what route the slasher will take. They could still be alive, appear in a dream, or be the focus of a haunting flashback.

Scream 7has a big cast, and while fans wait to find out what new characters have been added to Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) life, they’re also curiousif any past characters will suddenly show upin the movie. WhenScream 7is released on February 27th, 2026, all these questions will be answered. In the meantime, there’s one Ghostface who should return.

Scream 4’s Ghostface Charlie Walker Should Appear In Scream 7

Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin), one of the Ghostface killers fromScream 4, should make an appearance inScream 7.WhileJill Roberts (Emma Roberts)is the mastermind behind the killing spree, and she kills Charlie, he could appear in a flashback or memory. Maybe in one scene, Sidney Prescott will look back on the different Ghostfaces who have terrorized her, and she will think about Charlie.

Charlie is likable and relatable until the point when audiences learn the dark truth about him. Although he has a few things in common with Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid), one of theScream (2022)Ghostfaces, his love for film sets him apart. SinceCharlie is a movie fan who likes analyzing stories, and since he’s so familiar withtheStabhorror franchise, he’s an important and compelling character. IfScream 7is going to bring back Roman Bridger, who is a fairly weak Ghostface and not as interesting as the others, then Charlie should get some screen time, too.

Robbie Mercer (Eric Knudsen) and Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) in Scream 4

While there areseveral fan theories that some Ghostfaces are still aliveand working with new ones, it seems more likely that these past characters will be shown via flashbacks, Sidney or Gale Weathers’s (Courteney Cox) memories, or dreams. Maybe Sidney will spend some time reflecting on how her cousin Jill convinced Charlie to terrorize the town of Woodsboro, California, and this willhelp her gain some insight into the new killer (or killers).

Charlie’s connection to Sidney’s family makes him an important part of the horror franchise’s history. While he might be an underrated Ghostface who isn’t discussed as much as Billy or Stu Macher, he’s still memorable, and he could play a key role in defeating the new villain.

In a 2016 interview withFangoria,Rory Culkin shared that he wanted to play his Ghostface killer differently. He said that he watchedScream,Scream 2, andScream 3, and thought about how his Ghostface could stand out from the crowd. He wanted to figure out Charlie’s reason for becoming a killer and said:

“You don’t see it in the film, but in my mind, I was struggling. Every time I would kill someone, I would cry and feel bad about it. I felt I hadn’t seen that in aScreammovie, a remorseful killer—that’s what I was going for.”

Hearing Culkin’s creative process changes his character a bit and makes Charlie even more intriguing. When comparingthe motives of each Ghostface,Charlie’s motive is a bit weak because he wants to recreate theStabmovies, which doesn’t feel that original now sinceScream (2022)’s killers are also chasing fame. Charlie also seems to go along with what Jill Roberts wants because they’re friends. But hearing that Culkin played Charlie as a killer who wasn’t sure that he really wanted to harm anyone adds another layer to the scary story.
