Sakamoto Days Part 2 Episode 1 Release Date

Sakamoto Daysaired Episodes 1 to 11 from January to March, and the second cour of the anime is finally coming next month.Sakamoto Days Part 2will premiere on June 28, 2025(Monday), both in Japan and internationally. It may be listed on streaming platforms as “Season 2,” but the anime was originally announced to run for two non-consecutive cours, so it’s technically still part of the first season.

The second part is expected to run for 11 episodes, like the first, totaling 22 episodes for the first season. However, the production team hasn’t officially confirmedthe number of episodes in the upcoming segment.

Where to Watch Sakamoto Days?

Sakamoto Days Part 2will air on Japanese TV beforereaching global audiences through Netflix. The anime isa Netflix-exclusive series, and episodes are expected to debut subbed and dubbed in many languages, just like the first part.

In the first cour, the Japanese broadcast, including the streaming release, was one week ahead of the rest of the world. That happened because in the series' premiere, two episodes were added to Netflix Japan, while only one reached Netflix Global. This led some fans to use VPNs or even turn to unlicensed platforms to watch the episodes before their official international release. Therefore, there’s hope that Netflix will follow a unified release schedule this time, but they could end up repeating the same strategy.

What to Expect from Sakamoto Days Part 2

The biggest challenge during the first part of the anime was that manga fans were generally disappointed with the adaptation, especially in terms of pacing and the quality of the action scenes. For a good portion of them, the anime was rushed, and the animation was stiff. Indeed, many action scenes felt stiffer than usual for ahighly anticipatedShonen Jumpseries. On the other hand, anime-only fans were pleased with the series, and despite harsh criticism from manga readers,Sakamoto Dayswas among the most-watched series on Netflix globally (and especially on Netflix Japan) while it aired. It’s worth noting that Netflix Japan’s numbers probably included fans using VPN to watch the latest episodes ahead of the international release.

Given how complex anime production is, there was likely little time to make major changes to the animation between Part 1 and Part 2. In fact, Part 2 was probably already in production while the first cour aired. Nonetheless, fans seem to be a bit more satisfied with the trailers for the second part, which could suggest that the production was able to address a few issues in the meantime. Regardless, the series is likely to replicate the first part’s viewership success, even without substantial changes to the animation.

Which Arcs Will the Second Cour Cover?

The first part of the anime covered up to Chapter 37 of the original manga, but it skipped a few chapters, such as Chapters 3 and 16. Since these were mostly slice-of-life segments, fans have referred to the unadapted chapters as “filler chapters,” even though they are not fillers at all. Either way, the second part will start with Chapter 38, likely covering the rest of the Death Row Prisoners arc, which runs from Chapter 35 to Chapter 54.

Given the pacing in the first part, there’s a good chance the anime will progress throughthe JCC Transfer Exam arc(Chapters 55–72), and possibly even begin the JCC Infiltration arc, which takes place from Chapters 73 to 104. These three are fan-favorite arcs, so the anime will probably peak in popularity. Additionally, these episodes will mark the “departure” of Lu Shaotang from the series, as her appearances became less frequent as the story progressed and new characters were introduced.
