A new report has suggested that Ubisoft has canceled a potentialStar Wars Outlawssequel at the early stages of development. The canceledStar Wars Outlawssequel puts Kay Vess' journey at risk of being a standalone outing.
It’s no secret thatStar Wars Outlawswas a pretty significant financial flop for Ubisoft. The game failed to resonate with players, despite decent reviews earning it a Top Critic Average on review aggregator siteOpenCritic. In this era of gaming, it can be tough to break through to mass audiences without something spectacular, even with the weight of a huge IP likeStar Wars. In fact,Ubisoft recently blamedStar Wars' flagging brand reputationas one reason for the game’s financial failure.
As reported byTheGamer, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson recently mentioned on his Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that Ubisoft “recently canceledStar Wars Outlaws 2, because that was planned and in the works. It didn’t enter production… It was very, very, very early… They looked atOutlaws 2and thought, ‘let’s not do that.'” WithUbisoft’s recent big losses, it makes sense that it wouldn’t continue to roll the dice on aStar Wars Outlawssequel. The expectation would be for it to be bigger and better, which in this day and age can be extremely expensive.
Canceled Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Was At ‘Very, Very, Very Early’ Stage
While it’s sad that fans will seemingly never see what Ubisoft had in store for aStar Wars Outlawssequel, it’s better to lose it now rather than a couple of years down the line, when tons of work would have been lost. Unless theStar WarsIP sees a dramatic turnaround in reputation in the near future, it’s fair to suggest that theOutlawssequel will remain a hypothetical.
Despite Ubisoft’s reported cancellation ofStar Wars Outlaws’ sequel, the company seemingly hasn’t given up trying to make a success of the original game. The company continues to release new updates forStar Wars Outlaws, adding new features and fixing long-standing bugs.Star Wars Outlawsis also launching on Nintendo Switch 2on Jun 12, 2025, opening the game up to an entirely new audience later this year.
