Nintendo Switch Onlinemay soon be addingSuper Smash Bros.to its content catalog. That’s according to one tiny piece of evidence coming straight fromNintendothat was recently spotted by an eagle-eyed fan.
The source of the purported leak is a recentvideo breakdown of new N64 Switch Online featuresthat Nintendo released alongside the Switch 2. First shared in late May 2025, the clip goes over functional additions like the CRT filter, control remapping, and rewinding.
The promotional video also drops a possible hint thatSuper Smash Bros.is on its way to the service. As first spotted by Reddit user Starfox6664, the part talking about theNintendo Switch Online CRT filterbriefly shows a new setting toggle, overlaid on a blurred background displaying box art from the N64 library available on NSO. Seen in the bottom-right corner during this segment—around the 40-second mark—is something that appears to match theSuper Smash Bros.cover. Apart from the game’s tricolor logo, the blurred art has a big yellow shape in the exact spot where Pikachu is located in the original artwork.
Nintendo Possibly Leaked Another N64 Classic’s NSO Release
Starfox6664’s eagle-eyed observation was made within hours of Nintendo sharing the N64 NSO feature overview video. More recently, Reddit userLukePS7013noticed that the very same portion of the clip also contains another blob that may reveal more than it seems at first; immediately above the supposedSuper Smash Bros.art, there’s a blurry image that may resemble the cover ofGlover. Originally released in 1998, thisNintendo 64 classic received a remaster in February 2025, which also launched on the Switch. However,Gloverwouldn’t be the first game to appear both on the eShop and in its original form via NSO, as seen with titles such asShadow Manand the first twoTurokgames.
Relative to what came afterward,the firstSuper Smash Bros.gamestands out with its longer combos enabled by higher stun values. While this potentially makes it less accessible compared to the later entries, it still offers an experience that younger fans of platform fighters are likely to appreciate. Its name recognition alone makes it a high-profile candidate for the NSO library.
Even if Nintendodidaccidentally leak plans to bringSuper Smash Bros.to the Switch Online catalog, there’s no telling when exactly this prospective arrival might materialize. The Japanese gaming giant adds new games to the NSO library sporadically and without adhering to any patterns consistently. The most recent N64 title that made its way to the service wasKiller Instinct Gold, released on May 16. Prior to that,Shadow ManandRidge Racer 64debuted in October 2024.
