Unfortunately, the concept has caused nothing but issues for fans, who have called for its removal ever since.

With the launch of 2019’sModern Warfare, theCall of Dutyseries underwent some major changes. Not only didWarzonerevitalize the series a few months later with its own take on the Battle Royale genre, but Infinity Ward’s reboot of its iconicModern Warfareseries also utilized a revamped version of the IW game engine. Call of Duty Fans Are Eager to See the HQ App Put to Rest

Shortly after the launch ofCall of Duty’s Season 4 Reloaded update, Reality discovered in-game files that suggest Activision is gearing up to remove the two titles from the launcher and turn them into their own standalone apps, and fans couldn’t be happier. According to a text string found in the game’s files, players will need to redownload and installModern Warfare 2andModern Warfare 3at some point in the future, as they are set to be removed from the HQ app. In response to the leak, Twitter userJaayshotexclaimed, “NO WAYYY LETS GOO,” whileSteven Aleansaid, “this is an extremely rare W.” Others questioned whether this could be the beginning of the end forCall of DutyHQ, but some think it is likely just to prepare for future games to be added to the launcher.

The change has yet to go live, so there’s no knowing when players will need to redownloadModern Warfare 2andModern Warfare 3. However, with therecent reveal ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 7, there’s a high chance that Activision is simply removing older titles in order to make way for its upcoming launch. There’s currently no release date for the nextBlack Opsgame, but it is speculated to follow series tradition and launch in late October or early November.
