Unfortunately for fans hoping to see another remake of the originalResident Evilgame, the latest word is that such a project is not in development. The originalResident Evilcoined the term survival-horror and popularized the genre. It kickstarted one of gaming’s most successful and longest-lasting franchises, with Capcom still releasing newResident Evilgames to this day.

A mere six years after the originalResident Evilgame was released, Capcom decided to remake it for the GameCube. The 2002Resident Evilremake earned a great deal of acclaim for its fresh take on the 1996 original, offering new story details, fresh gameplay ideas, and stunning graphics that still hold up to this day. Lately, Capcom has had a great deal of successremaking classicResident Evilgameswith an over-the-shoulder camera similar toRE4as opposed to the fixed-camera angle used by the OGResident Eviland its remake, leading some fans to push for the classic game to be remade yet again.

There were some rumors that another remake of the originalResident Evilwas in the works, but those were shut down. Now, reliableResident Evilleaker AestheticGamer has said that, last they heard, aResident Evil 1remake is not currently in development. They reiterated their claims that thenextResident Evilremakeswill beZeroandCode: Veronica. However, they did say that they “think” a remake of the originalResident Evil"will happen eventually," but withZeroandCode: Veronicanext in line, it would be years before such a project materialized.

Resident Evil 1 Remake Not in Development

A remake of the originalResident Evilgame already exists, but there would be some value in remaking it again in the style of the more recent entries. Having all theclassicResident Evilgamesin the same style would make them more accessible to newcomers that may not enjoy the fixed-camera angles and more dated aspects of the original and the 2002 remake.

Time will tell if Capcom ever decides to move forward with anotherResident Evilremake, but the good news is that the remastered version of the 2002 remake is readily available to play on modern platforms. TheResident Evil HD Remasteris availablefor PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, meaning anyone with a modern gaming console can play the classic game complete with new controls, achievement support, and other improvements. The same goes forResident Evil Zero, so fans don’t have to wait for the rumored remake of that game to revisit it on modern platforms.
