Developer Microids has announced a brand-new entry into the long-runningAsterix & Obelixseries, withMission Babylonset to launch later this year onPS5. While the series may not be among the most prolific franchises in gaming, theAsterix & Obelixseries has a long and storied history of video game adaptations. Based on a French comic book series, the franchise has produced a litany of games, starting as early as 1983’sAsterixand continuing to see new releases to this day. Now, the franchise is set to receive a new local co-op game later this year.
Local co-op games have seen a major resurgence throughout the past few years, off the back of multiple award-winning games. Hazelight Studios' 2021 co-op platformer gameIt Takes Twosaw rave reviewsfrom fans following its release, even winning Game of the Year at the 2021 Game Awards. The genre has seen plenty of games go viral in the online space as well, with games likeChained Togetherseeing success among many top content creators. Now,Asterix and Obelixis pushing its way into the co-op space.
Developer Microids officially revealedAsterix & Obelix: Mission Babylonas a brand-new co-op entry in the series. The short announcement trailer showed off the titular characters operating a variety of different devices, using hoists to raise and lower different platforms and objects. The co-op platformer’s Steam page also hints attwenty different levels across four unique worlds, teasing the game’s humorous story as Asterix and Obelix battle against the Roman Empire.Asterix & Obelix: Mission Babylonis scheduled to release in October 2025 on PS5, Switch, and PC.

The newestAsterix & Obelixgame comes as the franchise has been busy throughout recent years with a plethora of remasters.
