Sony has released one last surprise forPlayStation Starsmembers, marking the impending end of its relatively short-lived loyalty program. This final digital collectible serves as a farewell gift to users still enrolled inPlayStationStars, which is now in its winding-down phase.
Launched in 2022, PlayStation Stars was Sony’s attempt to reward loyal players with digital collectables and redeemable points for completing certain challenges and tasks. While PlayStation Stars aimed to create a fun ecosystem for engagement, the program faced lots of issues throughout its lifespan. It was limited to certain regions, remained exclusive to the PlayStation mobile app - never launching on PS4 or PS5 - andPlayStation Stars even faced a massive technical outagelast June. Despite PlayStation Stars being around for nearly three years on paper, many members had access to the full program for only about one year.

In October 2024, Sony abruptlytook away store credit rewards from PlayStation Stars, and May 2025 saw the program’s shutdown being announced. Now, ahead of PlayStation Stars' campaigns ending on Wednesday, July 23, Sony has rolled out the final collectable for it: ablue-and-purple starthat’s symbolic of the loyalty program’s name and purpose. It comes with an emotional message from Sony: “Thank you for three years of silly jokes, fun collectables, and a shared love of incredible games.”
How to Earn the Final PlayStation Stars Mythic Collectable
To claim this final Mythic collectable, PlayStation Stars members simply need to log into the PlayStation mobile app andplay any PS4 or PS5 game before June 08, 2025. After that date, PlayStation Stars campaigns will come to a close, and no new rewards, points, or level-ups will be distributed. Sony previously confirmed that the current version ofPlayStation Stars will be taken offline fully on July 09, 2025. However, new sign-ups were blocked starting May 2025, and the ability to earn points from PS Plus subscriptions was halted even earlier in March. PlayStation Stars users can still redeem any unexpired points in their accounts until the final shutdown date.
The forthcoming demise of PlayStation Stars doesn’t come as much of a surprise to longtime observers. Many players expressed disappointment withPlayStation Stars' limited functionality, underwhelming rewards, and lack of native console integration. The most appealing feature of the loyalty program - redeeming points for PlayStation Store credit - was slowly scaled back over time, frustrating those who had hoped to use PlayStation Stars as a discount tool. While there is no word yet on a direct replacement, Sony did hint at the possibility of launching a new and improved loyalty program in the future.
