Pokemon TCG Pocket’s new A4 set, dubbed Wisdom of Sea and Sky, came out today alongside its two signature booster packs dedicated to Ho-Oh and Lugia, respectively. BetweenPokemon TCG Pocket’s Ho-Oh Ex controversy, with a new design for its immersive version being in the works, and the fact that Lugia Ex has an incredibly strong attack that has equally hefty requirements, the signature cards for each pack are not necessarily the best. However, there are some very strong cards to be collected in Wisdom of Sea and Sky, and one of them allows players to build an S-tier deck that ruins opponents' strategies and has an arguably “toxic” strategy, worse than Darkrai Ex and Giratina Ex.
Darkrai Ex and Giratina Ex decks inPokemon TCG Pocketare called Darktina for short, and they have been around since the release of Shining Revelry, which is when Giratina Ex had its debut. The main strategy of the deck was and still is to slowly reduce the opposing Pokemon’s HP with Darkrai Ex’s Nightmare Aura while slowly building Giratina Ex on the bench for it to attack at a later point for 130 damage. Yet, the new Umbreon Ex from set A4 is an incredibly potent card that acts as an infinite Cyrus.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s New Wisdom of Sea and Sky Set Adds an OP ‘2-in-1’ Card
Umbreon Ex has 140 HP, is weak to Grass, has a retreat cost of 2, and attacks for 80 damage with Darkness Fang, costing two Darkness Energy. More importantly, thenew Wisdom of Sea and Sky Umbreon Exhas the Dark Chase ability, which allows the user to switch in one of the opponent’s damaged benched Pokemon in the active spot as long as Umbreon Ex itself is in the active spot. This is basically a free, infinite Cyrus, and Umbreon Ex can also attack for 80 damage for two Energy on top of that.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Cyrus Supporteris one of the best cards in the game because it can easily disrupt the opponent’s game plan by swapping a damaged Pokemon on the bench with the active one, often being used aggressively to take out a benched critter and take easy points. As such, Umbreon Ex is already quite strong in and of itself, but it’s taken to the next level when combined with Eevee Grove’s Sylveon Ex, the new Find a Friend Eevee, and Genetic Apex’s Greninja.
Why Umbreon Ex/Sylveon Ex/Greninja is an S-Tier Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket
Sylveon Ex and Greinja decks inPokemon TCG Pocketalready dominated last season as soon as Eevee Grove came out, and that’s because players could run both Psychic and Water Energy to make these cards attack, with the former being a draw engine and the latter sniping Pokemon on the bench. Greninja is and always has been OP thanks to its Water Shuriken ability because it can slowly take out opposing Pokemon on the bench by dealing 20 damage to them every turn, up to 40 with two copies of Greninja. When combined with Umbreon Ex, though, one can use Water Shuriken to damage an opposing Pokemon and then switch it in the active spot for Umbreon Ex to attack.
WhilePokemon TCG Pocket’s OP Sylveon Excannot attack in this deck, as it needs reliable Darkness Energy generation for Umbreon Ex, it’s crucial because it allows for much more consistent access to all the key pieces in the deck. These are:
Then, the deck will always run two copies of Poke Ball and Professor’s Research, and in most cases, a combination of Sabrina, the new Silver Supporter, Mars, Red Card, Pokemon Center Lady, and Giant Cape. The bulk of the deck, though, especially withPokemon TCG Pocket’s Poke Balland Professor’s Research being fundamentally mandatory, is made of at least 17 cards, mostly 18, which leaves very little wiggle room for extras. Still, this deck has great matchups across the board, and its biggest issue may be the new Crobat Ex.
