Pokemon Legends: Z-Arecently showed itself again during the Pokemon Presents direct in July, confirming several new and returning features for the game ahead of its release on October 16 for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. One of the most exciting parts of the game for many fans is thatPokemon Legends: Z-Awill add new Mega Evolutions, with the recent trailer confirming the leaked Mega Dragonite and all the other 25 Megas alongside it, since they came from the same source. With what is coming in the game,Pokemon Legends: Z-Ais inadvertently confirming that one of the series' types is the worst.
Pokemon types play a big part in the battles throughout the entire series, as some types are more effective against others or weaker against some. Each Pokemon type has its set of weaknesses, resistances, and types it deals 2x damage against, and based on all this, some types are arguably the best or the worst overall.Pokemon Legends: Z-Awill have a different approach to battles by making them more dynamic and reactive, but types will still have a major role in determining the damage dealt or received. Based on the current balancing of the types and the fact that it has the lowest number of Mega Evolutions dedicated to it, Ice is confirmed again as the worst type overall.
Why Ice is The Worst Pokemon Type in The Series
Thebest type combos inPokemongamestypically use two types that are already powerful on their own, and the opposite holds true for the worst combinations. What is often considered to be the absolute worst type combo in the series is Bug/Ice, and the reason is that these are typically cited as the single worst types on their own. Whether Bug or Ice is worse is up for debate, but Ice often takes the crown because it takes 2x damage from four types and only resists Ice itself.
The leaked26 new Mega Evolutions inPokemon Legends: Z-Aonly include one Ice-type critter in the form of Froslass, which is Ice/Ghost, and the list of Mega Evolutions from Gen 6 titles that have Ice as one of their types is not much longer. Currently, the only Ice-type Pokemon with Mega Evolutions are Glalie and Abomasnow, so one could argue that the leaked Mega Froslass is simply giving Snorunt the second half of its evolutions as a Mega. Either way, Ice is tied for the least amount of Mega Evolutions both inPokemon Legends: Z-Aand the series as a whole.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A will reportedly have 1 Mega for Ice, Bug, Rock, and Electric. The existing Megas include 2 Ice Pokemon, 4 Bug, 3 Rock, and 2 Electric, meaning that after Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Ice and Electric will have the lowestnumber of Mega Evolutionsoverall with 3 each.

Between the fact that Ice Pokemon are often among the worst overall, with a few glaring exceptions, likePokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Chien-Paoor Iron Bundle, and the fact that they have only three Mega Evolutions in the span of three major games (Gen 6, Gen 3 remakes, andPokemon Legends: Z-A), Ice seems to be confirmed as the worst or second-worst type in the series even in terms of support. Unless the leaks happen to be wrong, which is unlikely given that they included a perfect description of Mega Dragonite the way it actually is, fans of Ice-type critters are in for disappointment.
