This July, fans have been kept busy with anniversary celebrations, GO Fest, and a few other limited-time events scattered throughout the month. Even though the larger events have come and gone, other fun opportunities are just around the corner. July 19 in particular is a busy day for players because Gigantamax Lapras will be available from 2 PM to 5 PM local time, and right after that starts the Summer Concert event with a rare global chance to catch Chatot. Once Gigantamax Lapras comes through, a new set of Max Battles will surely excitePokemon GOfans who love the Eon duo. Latios and Latias will not only be able to Mega Evolve, but Dynamax as well.

Latios and Latias Are About to Be the Only Two Legendaries That Can Dynamax and Mega Evolve

Latios and Latias Are Planning to Take Center Stage on Power Spots

Starting on July 26, players can encounter the Eon Pokemon under the effects of the Dynamax phenomenon. Just like Gigantamax Lapras before them, fans who need help battling Latios and Latias can complete Timed Research to add a Dynamax Gastly to their team alongside other team-building bonuses. There is even a chance thatthe Eon duo will be Shinywhen players catch them after their battles. Those who are familiar with Max Battles will likely find themselves at home with the event, and players who are new should take advantage of the Timed Research when it becomes available on July 21.

Compared to Gigantamax Lapras, players have a little extra time to obtain Latios and Latias. Gigantamax Lapras is only around from 2 PM to 5 PM local time, while Dynamax Latios and Latias appear on July 26 at 6 AM local time and stick around until July 27, 9 PM local time.

Latios and Latias were given the ability to Mega Evolve inPokemon GOback in 2022. Mega Evolution has been inPokemon GOsince 2020, but currently Latios, Latias, Rayquaza, and Diancie are the only Legendary/Mythic creatures that can Mega Evolve. There are a few Pokemon in the game that can use Dynamax or Gigantamax as well as Mega Evolution, but surprisingly, none of them are Legendaries beyond Latios and Latias. It’s interesting that this line forLegendaries inPokemon GOhas been broken by the Eon duo, considering Mewtwo and Rayquaza are arguably more favorable options to meet this mark, yet it went to the unexpected Generation 3 Pokemon. It’s a welcome change after how long Mewtwo, at the very least, has stolen the limelight in other parts of the franchise.

Getting Dynamax Latios and Latias Now Will Come in Handy Later

UnlikePoGO’s Mega Evolution mechanic, Dynamax was just recently added, back in September 2024. There are still quite a lot of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon to come to the game, and Latios and Latias could be incredible assets in catching them if players snag them now rather than later. TheEon Duo may have been inPokemon GOsince 2018, but there may be a few fans who don’t have one or the other who might enjoy getting a chance to add them to their Pokedex at a time where they might be even more useful. There’s also a chance that the upcoming Pokemon Presents might reveal what otherGOevents are happening at the same time, so Latias and Latios may have a more important purpose that fans don’t know of yet on top of everything else.
