Pokemon GOworks on a seasonal structure that aims to deliver fun events for players of all kinds of skill levels. Fans who enjoy going out and catching limited-time Pokemon can enjoy a nice stroll with special background music through the Summer Concert event, while other skill-orientedPokemon GOplayers can team up to catch powerful creatures in the game’s frequent raids. These events serve to keep fans coming back to the app to catch tons of creatures for tons of rewards or for just a bit of a challenge. Currently, the Delightful Days season will run until September, and it’s handled prominent GO Fest and ninth anniversary events before settling back into more calming event cycles.

Just like Research Days and Hatch Days, Max Battle days give players a chance to obtain rare Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokemon for a few hours on a specific date.Latios and Latias' Max Battle Dayis coming up on July 26, and it marks the first time Legendary Pokemon can Dynamax and Mega Evolve inPokemon GO. After that, there might be a bit of a disappointing Max Battle Day in players' futures as Gigantamax Butterfree will take over Battle Spots on August 3. Gigantamax Butterfree isn’t entirely worthwhile long-term, so it’s a bit of a harder sell than Latios or Latias.

Giantamax Butterfree Has Too Little Behind It to Justify The Effort

Why Gigantamax Butterfree is Better For Collecting and Not Battling

Gigantamax Butterfree was first teased when the Delightful Days season was set to begin, seen in the trailer for the event. As a result, players who knew howPokemonstats translate to the mobile game were able to figure out how the Butterfly Pokemon’s Gigantamax statsfromPokemon SwordandShieldwould work. The results weren’t impressive; Gigantamax Butterfree only has a small yield compared to other Bug-type options and will likely be easily replaced by most teams for something better as more Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon are added.

Pokemon GO Players Might Not Want to Waste Time Shiny-Hunting Gigantamax Butterfree

Outside the Pokedex and stats, the only thing some players might be interested in regarding the event is the chance to snag a Gigantamaxshiny Butterfree. What makes a good shiny depends on the player, but for Gigantamax Butterfree, the only difference is the eyes, hands, and feet. The wings take up a large fraction of the critter’s design and stay the exact same no matter what, and those will be all players see with the shiny itself when trying to use it to catch other Dynamax critters. Max Battles take a lot of time and resources to complete, so spending three hours shiny hunting this Pokemon arguably isn’t worth it.

There are far better potential Bug-Types for Dynamax that would also be better as ashiny, like Volcarona, so players may want to wait for something better to come along instead of chasing a creature that might be replaced in a few months at the earliest. Of course, those who like Butterfree shouldn’t be discouraged from trying, but a small player yield at these Battle Spots may hurt their chances of grabbing the Gigantamax Butterfly Pokemon in time. Once Dynamax Latios and Latias make their way through, the next Max Battle Day should be revealed soon after, and hopefully it’ll feature a critter much more worth the chase it’ll put players through.
