APokemon GOplayer excitedly shared that they had finally completed a Special Research Task after around four years. InPokemon GO, Special Research missions are often meant to be challenging for players, but the rewards can be quite gratifying.
Pokemon GOperiodically launches Special Research campaigns, which are permanent sets of tasks that grant players valuable items, EXP, and even encounters with Mythical Pokemon. However, sometimes these tasks are particularly hard to complete. Some ofPokemon GO’s hardest Special Research questshave also been tied to catching or evolving rare Pokemon, which can be tough for casual players. OnePokemon GOplayer put this issue into the spotlight after a task took them years to finish.
Reddit user phytomycete eagerly revealed that, after four years of trying, they had managed to catch a Ditto for Mew’s Special Research “A Mythical Discovery.” Fellow players congratulated them, with one assuring them that completing the campaign would be smooth sailing from this point.Catching Ditto inPokemon GOis no easy feat due to its disguising gimmick. And while there are some tricks to boost Ditto encounters, they require players to be on a constant lookout. As explained by phytomycete, they haven’t playedPokemon GOcontinuously in recent years, so obtaining a Ditto was extra difficult. However, between unlocking the Ditto Research Task and actually finishing it, the user had leveled up over ten times, which sheds light on their determination.
Pokemon GO Player Catches Ditto After Four Years for Mew Special Research
In a gratifying surprise, the player discovered that catching a Ditto was also a mission for Meltan’s Special Research, so they were now one step closer to catching the Mythical Pokemon. While the fan met the achievement with excitement, sometimesPokemon GOplayers find Special Research campaigns frustrating. These quests are occasionally launched with limited events, encouraging fans to complete them in short periods of time. However, if players don’t manage to fulfill the tasks, they could carry an unfinished campaign in their account for months or even years. A similar problem happened earlier in March 2025, whenPokemon GOwas heavily criticizedfor its Kyurem Special Research that demanded too many Raids in a day. On that occasion, the developers later modified the tasks to make them more accessible to fans.
WhilePokemon GOtends to release a new free Special Research campaign almost every season, it hasn’t launched a Delightful Days one yet. Instead, the summer season has been heavily focused on GO Fest 2025 andPokemon GO’s upcoming 9th anniversary, which will kick off on July 1.
