Pokemon GOis adding several new Generation 8 Ice-types to the game as part of a new event, Cozy Companions. The event will operate similarly to otherPokemon GOactivities, giving players the opportunity to expand their Pokedex through the introduction of new Pokemon and special Wild Encounters, in addition to the ability to earn extra XP through a variety of exciting bonus opportunities and research tasks.
Pokemon GOplayers have several other events to look forward to in August, including Fossil Research Day andPokemon GO’s August 2025 Community Day. Back in June, players voted on the featured Pokemon for the August 2025 Pokemon GOCommunity Day, with Flying-type Rookidee securing the win. With this, Rookidee will spawn more frequently in the wild, and players will have an increased chance of catching a Shiny variant of Rookidee.
According to Niantic, the Cozy Companion event inPokemon GOwill begin on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:00 AM and end on August 12 at 8:00 PM local time. During the event, two Gen 8 Ice-type Pokemon will make their debut: worm Pokemon Snom and its Evolution, Frosmoth. Once a player captures Snom, they’ll need 400 Snom Candy to evolve it into Frosmoth after earning 10 Hearts with the Pokemon as their buddy, with Niantic noting that Snom can only evolve into Frosmoth at night.

It will be interesting to see what other Pokemon from Gen 8 and Gen 9 will be added to the game in the future. There’s also the question of whether Niantic will introduce more limited-time promotions, like the special code offered during this year’s Pokemon Presents stream that gives players a chance tocatch a Gigantamax Pokemon until August 24.

The Cozy Companions event also offers a more generous timeframe to complete compared to other events, providing players with more flexibility than thetypical three-hour Community Day window forPokemon GO.
