Niantic has revealed its newPokemon GOFossil Research Day event will be held this August with event-themed Field Research tasks and several event bonuses. Like otherPokemon GOevents, the new Research Day event presents a valuable opportunity for players missing out on certain Pokemon while giving veteran Pokemon Trainers another chance to catch their next Shiny.
Pokemon GOrecently celebrated its ninth anniversary withthePokemon GOFest 2025: Global event, which allowed players from around the world to team up and catch Volcanion and other Pokemon together. Events likePokemon GOFest and Community Day give players more opportunities to catch featured Pokemon and obtain rewards like Stardust and Candy. As July winds down, Niantic is revealing some of its newPokemon GOevents for August 2025, which now include the new Fossil Research Day event.
In a new blog post, Niantic confirmed that thePokemon GOFossil Research Day will take place on Saturday, Aug 01, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During the event, players can complete event-themed Field Research tasks to earn guaranteed encounters with Tyrunt and Amaura, who both have an increased chance of appearing as a Shiny Pokemon. Omanyte, Kabuto, Lileep, Anorith, Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, and Archen will also appear in the wild more frequently than usual, with an increased chance of appearing as aShiny Pokemon inPokemon GOas well.
Pokemon GO Fossil Research Day Announced for August 2
In addition, Niantic will offer event-exclusive paid Timed Research in thein-gamePokemon GOshopduring Fossil Research Day. Players may purchase the new Timed Research for $1.99 to gain access to more Field Research tasks, which include additional rewards and encounters with Tyrunt and Amaura. However, players must complete their tasks and claim their rewards before the tasks expire on August 2 at 5:00 p.m. local time. Tickets to the paid Timed Research may be gifted to friends inPokemon GOwith a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with the user. Moreover, thePokemon GOweb store will be updated with a new Fossil Research Day Ultra Ticket Box for $1.99. The event-themed Ultra Ticket Box includes an event ticket and three Max Revives.
After Fossil Research Day, a variety of events will be held inPokemon GO, including Dark Skies begins on August 18 and GO Fest 2025: Max Finale on August 23. On August 30, Rookidee will arrive as the featured Pokemon forPokemon GO’sAugust 2025 Community Day event.
