APokemonfan artist has shared incredible redesigns of Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip’s evolutionary lines with the community, wowing users with a surprisingly in-depth reinterpretation of the Generation 3 starters. Introduced inRuby and Sapphire, the Hoenn starters are fan favorites amongPokemonenthusiasts.
Redesigning Pokemon remains a favorite pastime of many fans, and starters are considered prime targets. Among the nine generations' worth of starters released thus far, Generation 3 is often considered to have one of thebest starter trios inPokemon. Artists frequently share their alternate versions of these three Pokemon, showcasing their talent and imagination.
Reddit user dukepinball shared a stylized artwork depicting an alternative version of the Generation 3 starters in a recent post, reimagining them based on the artist’s unique interpretation. Fans were amazed by how comprehensive yet thoughtful the redesign was, changing almost every aspect of the Pokemon while still keeping its core identity intact. Among the three, theWater-type starter, Mudkip, and its evolutions earned a lot of praise for being just as derpy as the original design but with a different look.
Pokemon Fan Redesigns Generation 3 Starters and Their Evolutions
For the Treecko line, the artist noted that it was inspired by the tracktail lizards fromMonster Hunter Wilds, and their ability to balance themselves on their tail. In the redesign, Treecko was standing on one tail, Grovyle on two, and Sceptile was balancing on three. Additionally, Sceptile’s typing was changed to Grass/Psychic, with a pose similar to Mega Alakazam to sell the concept. Instead of spoons, however, Sceptile was using hovering seed bombs as psychic props.
The HoennFire starter evolutionary line, on the other hand, was reimagined as candle-basedPokemon. Torchic’s and Combusken’s plumes were turned into candle flames for this new concept, whereas Blaziken’s arms were turned into two candelabras. Blaziken was also given an association with the Egyptian sun god Ra, with a Cofagrigus emblem on its head to complete the look. Its typing was also changed to Fire/Ghost, and it was given two different modes: Claw mode, where the folds of its limbs would turn sharp, increasing Attack, and Candle mode, where its arm candles would light up, increasing Sp. Atk.
In the Mudkip line, Marshtomp and Swampert gained a water-filled space helmet on their heads and some metallic tools to go with the astronaut theme. Swampert’s typing was changed to Water/Steel to complete the transition. In the comment section, a keen-eyed user mentioned that all the redesigns seemed to be heavily inspired by characters from theMega Manuniverse, a detail later confirmed by dukepinball in the replies. Specifically, Sceptile was based on Plant Man, Blaziken on Pharaoh Man, and Swampert on Bubble Man, alliconic Robot Masters from theMega Manseries.
