Sony-owned live-service gameHelldivers 2has been officially confirmed to release on Xbox in the coming months. The shock announcement comes over a year after rumors of an Xbox port ofHelldivers 2first began surfacing online.
Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and launched in early 2024,Helldivers 2is PlayStation’s most successful live-service game to date. The third-person co-op shooter garnered a massive amount of popularity from PS5 and PC players, withHelldivers 2having sold over 12 million copiesacross both platforms in its first four months. Expectedly, many Xbox players expressed their desire to get in onHelldivers 2’s frenetic co-op action on Series X/S, but the prospect seemed too far-fetched due to Sony’s ownership of theHelldiversIP, and even Arrowhead admitted that the decision lays with the gaming giant.
Still, Xbox fans kept voicing demand for aHelldivers 2Xbox port via a Change.org petition, which has accumulated over 134,000 signatures at the time of writing. Their longstanding requests have now been answered, asHelldivers 2is officially coming to Xbox Series X/S on July 30, 2025.Pre-orders forHelldivers 2are already live for Xbox users, with the popular live-service co-op shooter priced at $39.99 on Series X/S - effectively matching PS5 and PC pricing. TheHelldivers 2Xbox port has been developed by Sony’s in-house porting experts Nixxes Software and published under the PlayStation Publishing label.
After Being Rumored for More Than a Year, the Helldivers 2 Xbox Port is Finally Happening
Interestingly, industry insider Shpeshal Nick was the first to report “preliminary discussions” surrounding anXbox Series X/S port ofHelldivers 2all the way back in April 2024 - just over three months after the game launched. At the time, the possibility of Sony voluntarily bringing a PlayStation-owned IP to Xbox, the brand’s direct rival, seemed unthinkable. Fast-forward one year, though, and times have clearly changed. Xbox has adopted a multiplatform strategy and ported major games likeForza Horizon 5andIndiana Jones and the Great Circleto PS5, and now, it appears Sony may be dipping its toes into the same waters withHelldivers 2.
Notably,Helldivers 2is launching on Series X/S the same dayGears of War: Reloadedcomes to PS5, almost as if PlayStation and Xbox are facilitating an exchange of action-packed third-person shooters. Either way, Xbox fans have cause for celebration over this announcement, and with such strong demand exhibited via the Change.org petition,Helldivers 2might just catch a huge second wind thanks to none other than PlayStation’s direct competitor.
