On top of featuring remastered classics of the 2009 original,Replantedwill also feature new local co-op and PvP modes as well as brand-new minigames like Cloudy Day. Potential Future Remasters of Other Classic Mobile Games Like Plants Vs. Zombies Replanted
WhilePlants vs. Zombieswas originally released on Windows and Mac OS X PCs, it’s arguably most famous for its role in boosting the early mobile gaming market when it first debuted on the original generation of iPhones and iPads in early 2010. In fact, the iOS release ofPlants vs. Zombiessold over 300,000 copies in just nine days following its launch, generating over $1 million in gross sales. By 2016, the originalPlants vs. Zombiesapp on IOShad sold nine million copies. The early 2010s was a momentous period forPlants vs. Zombiesand its developer, PopCap Games; the tower defense game was quickly ported to numerous platforms such as the Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, and Android.
Plants vs. Zombieswasn’t the only stand-out mobile and PC title released towards the end of the 2000s, however. BeforePVZreleased, PopCap Games launched the casual puzzle gamePegglein 2007 for Windows and Mac OS X PCs before later portingPeggleto Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and IOS.Pegglewent on to receive similar critical and financial acclaim asPVZand went on to receive sequels with 2008’sPeggle Nightsand2013’sPeggle 2. IfPlants vs. Zombies: Replantedsells well and receives positive reviews, Electronic Arts should consider developing a remaster ofPeggle, potentially bundling in remasters ofPeggle NightsandPeggle 2, asPeggle 2was only released on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

An Angry Birds Trilogy Remaster Would Be a Logical Next Step
PopCap Games’Plants vs. Zombiesis often regarded as one of the best classic mobile games of all time, but it typically falls behind another great 2009 mobile game,Rovio Entertainment’sAngry Birds. This physics-based casual puzzle game is arguably responsible for the initial success of mobile gaming asAngry Birdswas downloaded 18 million times by September 2010 and later featured 200 million monthly active players by May 2012.
Since then,Angry Birdshas become a global multimedia phenomenon, but not all of its original titles are easily accessible today. To bring the series to modern audiences, Rovio should consider remasteringthe originalAngry Birds Trilogy, alongside possiblyAngry Birds Friends,Angry Birds Space, andBad Piggies, similar toPlants vs. Zombies: Replanted.

Rovio Entertainment did release a remake of 2009’sAngry Birdsin 2022 calledRovio Classics: Angry Birdsbut it was later renamed asRed’s First Flightin 2023.
Plants vs. Zombies Can Turn to Further Remasters
IfPlants vs. Zombies: Replanteddoes well on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms, it could potentially motivate EA to revisit other classicPlants vs. Zombiegames. For example, PopCap Games and EA could potentially remaster 2014’smultiplayer third-person shooterPlants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfarewas one of the earliest popular multiplayer titles during the eighth console generation, especially on Xbox One and PS4, with eight million players trying out the game by 2015.Garden Warfare’s servers are still currently online, though it has lost most of its playerbase in the decade since its launch.
RemasteringPlants vs. Zombies: Garden WarfareafterPlants vs. Zombies: Replantedcould create a wave of nostalgia for players who grew up with both mobile and console games.Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2andits sequelPlants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborvillestill have active multiplayer servers as well, but the firstGarden Warfarestill has an original appeal to it that can attract both veteran and new players. EA and PopCap could potentially bundle bothGarden Warfaregames into a remaster package asGarden Warfare 2will turn 10 years old in February 2026. Either way,Plants vs. Zombies: Replantedand other potentialPVZremasters could help revitalize thePlants vs. Zombiesfranchise and offer a new perspective on mobile gaming history.
