Continuing this trend, anotherPhasmophobiaupdate rolled out on June 24, bumping the game’s version number up to 0.13. Officially called “Chronicle,” the changelog attached to this release numbers over 140 items, thus marking one of the game’s biggest updates to date. Among the highlights of the patch are changes to its core investigative gameplay and long-term progression, which have been meaningfully expanded upon.

Phasmophobia Overhauls Its Evidence System

The Chronicle update overhaulsPhasmophobia’s evidence systemin several ways, including a journal rework that replaces the old Photos tab with a Media tab, split into Photos, Videos, and Sound Recordings sections. Much like this more granular categorization suggests, the change is reflective of the two new types of evidence that players are now able to collect and review. For audio evidence, the game provides a new capture device, aptly called the Sound Recorder. Meanwhile, video footage can be recorded via the existing video camera. Initiating a recording sequence is as simple as holding the “Use” button while aiming the camera at the desired spot. Video evidence can be used to document a variety of events, including all types of ghost interactions. A maximum of five video clips can be captured during a single investigation.

Conversely,Phasmophobia’s Sound Recorderis limited to three audio clips per contract. It can be obtained starting from Level 4. Improved variants of the device, classified as Tier 2 and Tier 3, can be unlocked at higher levels. The gadget can capture Spirit Box responses and paranormal sounds, among other events. As a result of the new evidence types, the total number of photos allowed per investigation has been reduced by half, now capped at five.

The Chronicle update also expands optional objectives and challenges, including equipment-focused missions and update-specific tasks. Dozens of bug fixes are also part of the package, together with UI improvements, such as playstyle and platform filters for lobbies. The Chronicle update is already available for download across all ofPhasmophobia’s platforms: the PS5, PS VR2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Phasmophobia v0.13 ‘Chronicle’ Update Patch Notes

The core of the CHRONICLE update is our complete rework of how Media is gathered and rewarded in Phasmophobia. A brand-new piece of equipment has been added along with two new types of media - videos and sound recordings – as well as revamped challenges and progression systems.

Photos System Changes

In addition to the above, the Photos system has seen adjustments.

New Evidence Type: Videos

The first new media type introduced in CHRONICLE is Video Recording. Using the video camera, players can capture video during an investigation.

Below is a selection of recordable media during an investigation:

New Evidence Type: Sounds

The second new media type is linked to Phasmophobia’s newest piece of equipment – the Sound Recorder. Using this new piece of equipment, players will be able to capture up to three Sounds per contract. These are able to be played back from the Sounds page in the Journal.

The Sound Recorder itself will be available from Level 4, with its Tier 2 and Tier 3 iterations available at later levels.

The Sound Recorder can capture the below Sounds during an investigation:

Unique Media

An important part of this update is to create a more immersive ghost hunting experience by removing some of the frustrations players encounter while capturing media.

CHRONICLE introduces changes to the overall Rewards and Progression system.

Progression

These changes will allow players to have options for upgrading equipment, instead of forcing a linear upgrade path.

Challenges and Optional Objectives

These changes to the challenge system also allow us to override challenges if an issue is found during any given week.

With optional objectives, we’ve made several adjustments – introducing new challenges and changing existing ones. Further changes and improvements to optional objectives will be made in a future update.
