There are a bunch of original and returning characters inPersona 5: The Phantom X, but some of them are much stronger than others. Each Phantom Thief is viable in the right team composition, but you should save your Meta Jewels and Tickets for the best of the best.
P5Xmay start off pretty easy, but the endgame content ramps the difficulty up significantly and requires you to put serious thought into your team composition. You’ll also need to spin the gacha wheel and wish for duplicates of certain characters to raise their Awareness levels since some characters get much, much stronger with these passive perks. Here’s every character so far inPersona 5: The Phantom X,ranked in a tier list.
Ren Amamiya, Yaoling Li, Ann Takamaki, Morgana
A-Tier
Lufel, Miyu Sahara, Kayo Tomiyama, Ryuji Sakamoto, Leo Kamiyama, Seiji Shiratori
Toshiya Sumi, Kiyoshi Kurotani, Tomoko Noge
S-Tier
These characters are the best of the best inPersona 5: The Phantom X.
Joker, Ann, andMorganaare three of the strongest Phantom Thieves in the entire game, so they definitely earn their spots in S-tier.Joker’s Curse damage is unmatched, and he only gets stronger with Awareness upgrades if you’re lucky enough to get them.Annis already a strong Fire unit on her own, but the prevalence of Fire on theP5Xroster really gives her kit a chance to shine.Morganais also hands down the game’s best support unit at the moment, while also being a solid source of Wind damage.
Yaoling Liis the only non-Persona 5character in S-tier, and for good reason. She’s one of the only sources of Curse damage outside of Joker at the moment, and her incredible debuffing skills make her a great fit for any team composition.
TheseP5Xcharacters are really strong, but they’re not quite as powerful as S-tier units.
This section of the tier list includes some ofPersona 5: The Phantom X’s best 4-star units and some solid 5-stars.Ryujiis the only 5-star in A-tier, since he’s outclassed by the other Phantom Thieves, but he’s still an incredibly strong single-target DPS unit with a fun crit-centric playstyle. The same goes forSeiji Shiratori, another great single-target DPS character in A-tier.
Lufelis the game’s best 4-star support unit, only outclassed by Morgana, but he only starts to shine once youpull duplicates of himto unlock his Awareness upgrades, since they increase the strength of his attack buffs.Leo Kamiyamais another decent buffer as well, but he sneaks into A-tier primarily because he’s one of the only sources of Nuclear damage for now.
Miyu SaharaandKayo Tomiyamaare the two best Navigators inP5X, and they absolutely earn their spots in A-tier. Miyu provides defense buffs to your team, while Kayo provides offensive buffs. They’re both super useful depending on the situation, and you should invest in them early on to make the most of their abilities.
B-Tier
ThesePersona 5: The Phantom Xcharacters are viable in most scenarios, but they’re outclassed by stronger units.
These are most of the average DPS characters inPersona 5: The Phantom X. They need Awareness upgrades to shine, but they’re solid enough at base level.Motoha Araiis one of the strongest Electric DPS units in the game for free-to-play accounts, but she doesn’t have a particularly exciting kit. The same goes forYukimi Fujikawa, who earns a spot in B-tier because she’s one of the only Bless characters on the roster for now (not countingWonder’s Personas).
The only somewhat surprising inclusion for B-tier isHaruna Nishimori, who is one of the game’s weakest 5-star units. Her kit is designed around buffing allies, but it’s worth investing in other support units over her in the current state of the game. She gets considerably stronger if you’re able to get her to Awareness level 2, but it’s not really worth the hassle.
C-Tier
TheseP5Xcharacters aren’t necessarily awful, but there isn’t much to set them apart from the rest of the roster.
These three 4-star units are some of the weakest inPersona 5: The Phantom X.Toshiya Sumiis notable for being the only 4-star Curse character, but his single-target DPS just isn’t high enough compared to other Phantom Thieves on the roster. The same goes forTomoko Noge, who is easily the game’s worst support unit since her buffs just don’t help as much compared to other characters.
Kiyoshi Kurotaniis the only character in C-tier with some real potential, but his strengths are too situational to place him any higher on the list. There are several other Fire characters that deal more damage than he can, but that’s also one of his biggest advantages. His abilities can increase the damage output of any Fire-based team and guarantee that your enemies will constantly be afflicted with Burn, but that’s all he’s usually good for.
