Atlus and developer Black Wings Game Studio are changing the global roadmap plans forPersona 5: The Phantom Xto help players outside of China get caught up.Persona 5: The Phantom Xis a free-to-play RPG spin-off set in the world ofPersona 5, where Persona users can enter the minds of the people of Japan through a mental reality known as the Metaverse. Much ofPersona 5’s core gameplay, such as dungeon crawling, social simulation, and monster recruiting, is all present and accounted for inPersona 5: The Phantom Xwith tweaks to accommodate the more open framework of a free-to-play gacha game.
Persona 5: The Phantom Xwas launched in Englishon June 26 for Android, iOS, and PC, though a beta test was available in China and other related territories for about a year beforehand. Because of this, much of the world is behind China when it comes toPersona 5: The Phantom X’s story and character updates, even as a new patch is set to launch worldwide later this week.
ThisnewPersona 5: The Phantom Xupdatewas the primary focus of a recentlivestream, where it was also confirmed that Atlus is altering its previous content rollout plans. As reported byKotaku, this livestream was in Japanese, though fans were able to translate much of the key information. This includes Atlus announcing thatPersona 5: The Phantom Xstory content will be released at a faster pace going forward to allow players outside of China to get caught up.
Persona 5: The Phantom X Will Release Story Content at a Faster Pace Globally
Atlus didn’t get into specific details about when players can expectmorePersona 5: The Phantom Xstory content, but the timing for future events, character releases, and balance updates is all being adjusted. This has generated a mixed response fromPersona 5: The Phantom Xfans across social media, with some concerned about the faster rollout negatively impacting the game’s flow by giving players too many upgrades too quickly. Others say that Atlus could offset these potential issues by giving players additional in-game currency to compensate for the supposedly shorter events.
So far,Persona 5: The Phantom Xhas been a considerable success, with Steam user numbers surpassing those ofPersona 5 Royalin a little over a week after its global launch. This puts the game on track to become one of the most successfulPersonagames of all time, and much of this has to do withPersona 5: The Phantom Xbeing free-to-play. Only time will tell if Atlus and developer Black Wings Game Studio will be able to retain this success through future content updates.
