Developer Grinding Gear Games has recently issued an update on server issues, compromised accounts, and visual flickering inPath of Exile. The developers ofPath of Exilehave been trying to improve the game’s security against Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks recently, but it seems that they’re not done yet.
Path of Exilewas released in its 1.0 version on PC in 2013 and received ports for Xbox One in 2017 and PlayStation 4 in 2019. Set in a dark fantasy world,Path of Exileis among themost popular action RPGs besides theDiablofranchise. A sequel,Path of Exile 2, was released in early access in December 2024.
Now, Grinding Gear Games hasissued an updateforPath of Exileplayers, addressing recent server instability. According to the developer, the team has been focused on improving the overall DDoS protection of the servers. However, this led to blocking some legitimate traffic, preventing some gamers from playingPath of Exile, and the situation will be resolved “as soon as possible.” Grinding Gear Games also discussed increased reports of compromised accounts, stating that the company found no evidence of any security breach on its end. The update ended by stating that the developer is also working on correcting visual flickering, which happens when “gameplay gets a bit hectic,” and has been negatively impacting the UI of some players.
Path of Exile Devs Working to Improve the Server’s Security
Since the release ofPath of Exile 2,Grinding Gear Games has been slowing down updates forPath of Exile 1. However, the team continues to support the older title, and these issues will hopefully be corrected soon.
After the release of the recent “Secrets of the Atlas” update,Path of Exilegreatly surpassed its sequel in player count on Steam, showing that the classic title still has a very engaged community. Unfortunately, as can be seen in the comments of Grinding Gear Games’ update, multiple gamers are facing severe connection issues, a disheartening event so soon after a major update.
Path of Exile 2, on the other hand, is not doing so well. The eagerly-awaited sequel is still in early access, but players are not entirely happy with it.Path of Exile 2currently has Mixed recent reviews on Steam, with only 51% of all players approving the action RPG in the last few days, with backlash increasing mostly after the recent “Dawn of the Hunt” update. When considering the entirety of the reviews, however, the title still stands as Mostly Positive.
