The open world ofRed Dead Redemption 2is widely regarded as one of the most immersive video game settings ever created. What makes the game’s environments special, though, is not their size or overall scope. Instead, it’s the little details within them that put them in a league of their own. While games likeAssassin’s Creed 4: Black FlagandXenoblade Chronicles Xexcel in the sheer size of their open worlds,Red Dead Redemption 2excels in pure depth. Virtually every nook and cranny ofRDR2’s world has something interesting to explore and discover, from derelict shacks and shipwrecks to train stations and hidden tunnels.

Due to the number of dangers that lurk around every corner inRed Dead Redemption 2, traversing through vast stretches of land in the game isn’t an easy task, so players have to spend a decent amount of money in order to stock up on essential supplies. Fortunately, gamers can find some ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s treasure mapsscattered throughout the game’s environments, which can guide them to the locations of some great riches. These maps can be obtained by players in various ways, some of which are harder than others. While most of the treasures that the maps lead to are legitimately valuable, one of them, in particular, sticks out like a sore thumb.

Players Can Get Maps that Reveal the Location of Two Gold Bars By Completing a Specific Side Quest

After starting the second chapter ofRed Dead Redemption 2, players can encounter a treasure hunter named Maximo near Flatneck Station, a train station in New Hanover. Upon meeting him, Maximo asks players if they are interested in buying a treasure map from him for $10. This map, according to Maximo, can lead players to a stash of gold that was hidden by a group of outlaws known as the Jack Hall Gang many years ago. If players accept this offer (or procure the map by other means, such as killing Maximo), they can partake in aStranger Mission side questcalled “All That Glitters,” in which they must scavenge for treasure hidden within the world ofRDR2.

In order to complete “All That Glitters,” and, in turn, find the hidden stash of gold, players have to obtain three maps that are concealed in the surrounding environments. These documents, which are often referred to as the Jack Hall Gang Maps, can be discovered pretty easily. The first map that players purchase from Maximo has the coordinates of the second map, the second map has the coordinates of the third map, and so on. After players uncover the third and final map in Coterra Springs, they can finally find the location of the real treasure: a pair ofRed Dead Redemption 2’s rare gold barshidden under a rock on a small island at O’Creagh’s Run.

A Pair of Gold Bars is Nice, But it’s Nowhere Near as Good as the Other Treasures in RDR2

To the casualRDR2player, two gold bars may sound like an awesome find (especially since they’re worth $500 each), but when compared to the other treasures in the game, they aren’t actually that great. Many ofRDR2’s other treasure maps arguably lead to far greater rewards. The Poisonous Trail Treasure Map, for example, can allow players to discover a whopping four gold bars, while the Landmark of Riches Map can guide them to the location of a stash of gold worth $3,000. Other maps, meanwhile, can lead players to a bunch of rare items, like a special horse stimulant, a Crow Beak Trinket, and even a revolver formerly owned by Otis Miller.

One of the maps inRed Dead Redemption 2, theLe Tresor Des Morts Map, is only available to those who purchased the game digitally on PS4 and Xbox One prior to its release in August 2018.

The Jack Hall Gang Maps Allow Players to Unlock Another Set of Treasure Maps

Perhaps the biggest reward that the Jack Hall Gang Maps provide is not a pair of gold bars, but rather another set of maps. Indeed, upon completing the “All That Glitters” side quest, players can unlocka specialRDR2random encounter eventthat allows them to receive the High Stakes Treasure Map. If they follow this series of maps, they can find three gold bars hidden northeast of Fort Wallace. This reward, of course, isn’t nearly as good as the other treasures concealed inRed Dead Redemption 2, but it’s at least better than the Jack Hall Gang one.
