One Pieceis currently in one of the most intriguing moments of the story as Luffy searches for the last Road Poneglyph, and Gaban might know exactly where it is. As things get heated in the Elbaf arc, many fans are expecting the return of one character: Big Mom.
Big Mom has become a major antagonist inOne Piecesince she was first introduced in the story. However, while some fans might believe she is gone for good, there are also hints that suggest she could return in the Elbaf arc, especially since she has a strong connection to Elbaf.
Who Is Big Mom in One Piece?
Charlotte Linlin, best known as Big Mom, is thecaptain of the Big Mom Piratesand the matriarch of the Charlotte family (her children and her husbands are part of her crew). She was first introduced in Chapter 651, at the end of the Fish-Man Island Arc. She was one of the Four Emperors who ruled over the New World and also a former member of the Rock Pirates.
At some point, she formed an alliance with Emperor Kaidou and the Beasts Pirates to claim the One Piece and conquer the world. However, this alliance ultimately failed when they were defeated. She rules over Totto, where she created the Homies, unique creatures who happily serve her as queen.
What Happened to Big Mom?
Big Mom was introduced at the end of the Fishman Island Arc, where she gets angry at Luffy after he tells her that he had eaten all the candy that was meant for her. From that point on, she appeared in the story as an antagonist. In the Zou Arc, she forces Sanji to take part in her plan to kill the Vinsmokes, which leads Luffy to later form a team to rescue Sanji from Whole Cake Island.
The Straw Hats were successful (with a bit of luck), which made Big Mom even more angry at Luffy. Feeling outraged, she later traveled to Wano to pursue him and his crew, where she decided to form the mentioned alliance with Kaidou. However, they lost, and she ended up falling into Wano’s magma chamber, leading some to believe that she is now dead, although that’s not the most likely outcome.
Big Mom’s Connection to Elbaf and Her Potential Return
WhileBig Mom’s birthplace hasn’t been revealed, her parents abandoned her on Elbaf, hoping that Mother Carmel would take her, which indeed happened. However, during a Winter Solstice festival, she went mad after fasting for several days and ended up destroying the village and killing many Giants. This led Jorul to consider her a criminal, but she was able to defeat him. After being fed with the semla she deeply wanted, she calmed down and slept, forgetting everything she had done.
Unfortunately,the Giants were already angry at her, forcing Carmel to move to another island. To make things worse, Carmel was already negotiating to sell her to the World Government in the future. It is implied in the manga that Big Mom accidentallyate Carmel and the other orphansduring her sixth birthday party, especially because Big Mom gained Carmel’s Soru Soru no Mi abilities after everyone “disappeared.” This led the Giants to hate her even more. Soon after that, former pirate Streusen approached her, and her pirate activities started soon after that.

Even though there is a fair chance that Big Mom died in Wano, many fans believe that she will returnand reconcile with the Giantsin the Elbaf arc. She said before that having the Giants on her side would be a huge boost for her crew, and she even tried to form a political marriage between one of her daughters and Prince Loki. Given that she has a deep relationship with Elbaf, it makes sense for her to return, even angrier and more resolved to settle her score with Luffy.
When Will the One Piece Manga End?
Eiichiro Oda has stated many times thatOne Pieceis heading towards its end. However, while he said multiple times that the story should end within the next few years, there isn’t any exact date for the manga to end. In fact, a few years ago, Oda stated that hewanted to end the series by 2025, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.
Nonetheless, he is probably trying to end it as soon as possible. Considering the current pacing of the story, fans could perhaps expect the manga to be concluded before 2030, but that is, of course, just a guess.
